Too American?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BringBiscuits · 28/10/2019 21:15

Like it.

Inthemoment38 · 28/10/2019 21:15

Have you watched Nashville by any chance? Deacon is a flawed hunky singer with a heart of gold.

PlanDeRaccordement · 28/10/2019 21:19

Only problem is a deacon is also a religious title in the Catholic Church. Before a person is ordained a priest, they are ordained as a deacon. It is essentially a priest to be or probation as a deacon will go on and be ordained a priest if they can keep the vows of holiness.
It would be like naming a child “bishop.”

Mollpop · 28/10/2019 21:23

Not good

percheron67 · 28/10/2019 21:37

Vicar, Chaplain, Padre anyone?

PlanDeRaccordement · 28/10/2019 21:42

Maybe Declan? It is a similar sounding Irish name

Mishfit0819 · 28/10/2019 21:48

Blue?

Toddlerteaplease · 28/10/2019 22:33

@PlanDeRaccordement one of our altar servers is called Deacon. And it sounds really weird.

speakfriendandenter · 29/10/2019 01:07

Love it! I've only heard of it used in America but that doesn't mean you can't use it. I like it!

Jossina · 29/10/2019 03:19

Not bad at all. And Deek is a cute nickname.

bookishtartlet · 29/10/2019 03:31

I teach a Deacon and he's brilliant. Also love Deacon from Nashville. Do it!

HeronLanyon · 29/10/2019 03:34

I know a Dickon (or is it Dicken?!). Deacon too church related for me.

Pemba · 29/10/2019 03:43

No, it's a rank in the church hierarchy, like pps said. Mind you, Dean is as well I suppose, and that's a lot more common.

NerdyCurvyInkedandPervy · 29/10/2019 04:04

Really like it.

daisypond · 29/10/2019 07:30

No, it’s a rank in the church. Like calling him Vicar.

MikeUniformMike · 29/10/2019 08:34

PlanDeRaccordement, Dean is an acceptable name.

Deacon will get shortened to Dick.

OverthinkingThis · 29/10/2019 12:22

I love it (Nashville fan) but DP vetoed it.

VenusClapTrap · 29/10/2019 18:27

Blue

DappledThings · 29/10/2019 22:08

Anglican church too.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/10/2019 22:12

And the Congregationalists. DF was a deacon before most of them merged with the Presbyterians, and he became an Elder instead.
Really odd thing to saddle a kid with. Confused

'1.
countable noun
A deacon is a member of the clergy, for example in the Church of England, who is lower in rank than a priest.

countable noun A deacon is a person who is not ordained but who assists the minister in some Protestant churches.'

Awful, Deek a cute nickname! Deek the Geek.

GeePipe · 30/10/2019 09:32

I personally hate it. I also think vicar. Also my relative is deacon and he is a nasty piece of work. But if you like it its a perfectly acceptable name that no one would bat an eye at if it was to be his name.

Nah, not for me. Sorry.

1066vegan · 30/10/2019 12:19

Very odd. I would definitely think job title rather than name if I heard that.
