Every YouTube clip is giving a different pronunciation!

I’ve never heard of it, what culture is it from?

I’d say Eh-riss

dementedpixie · 25/10/2019 14:05

Err-is

bn02 · 25/10/2019 14:05

Air-riss

FriedasCarLoad · 25/10/2019 14:10

Never heard it before. I’d guess to rhyme with trellis, but would probably ask.

MsChatterbox · 25/10/2019 14:10

Eh-riss

mclover · 25/10/2019 14:13

Eh-riss

Corneliawildthing · 25/10/2019 14:14

Never heard of it before but I'd say Err-iss, kind of like Erin but with an s at the end iykwim.

Poor child would be a laughing stock where I live as we say erse instead of arse Grin

Toadsrevisited · 25/10/2019 14:15

It's the name of the Greek goddess od strife and discord.... Like calling your child misery....

Cohle · 25/10/2019 14:16

Eh-riss too.

Not I huge fan to be honest.

Clangus00 · 25/10/2019 14:17

Ah @cornelia I thought that too.
Definitely Err-iss

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/10/2019 16:25

As it’s spelt E-Riss. Obviously unless I was told otherwise

ChicCauldron · 25/10/2019 16:26

Eh-ris

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/10/2019 16:30

What Toadsrevisited said. Eris was the goddess of strife who caused the Trojan War. Not a great association to saddle your daughter with. That and the difficulty with knowing how to pronounce it would rule it out for me.

ifigoup · 25/10/2019 16:33

I’d say EAR-iss (like ear on your body), I think.

LividLaughLove · 25/10/2019 16:37

Goddess of discord who started the Trojan war? Erm, don't.

MrsDimmond · 25/10/2019 16:38

To rhyme with Cerys or indeed trellis 😄

MrsDimmond · 25/10/2019 16:39

But have never heard of it.

Echobelly · 26/10/2019 16:29

To rhyme with Cerys, but while it sounds cool I'm not sure I'd name my child after a goddess of chaos and spite

BackforGood · 26/10/2019 16:48

Never heard of it, but if I saw it on a list of names, I'd probably guess at Eh-riss - sort of like Erin with the ss replacing the n

SemperIdem · 27/10/2019 14:32

Eh-riss.

I like the sound of it. The history of the name is a bit off putting though. I have similar thoughts on Lucifer.

dancingbadger · 27/10/2019 15:10

We had a dog called Eris after the Greek goddess of trouble, as we thought she'd be trouble, she was actually a lovely dog but I wouldn't consider it for a child tbh!

CanThingsChange35 · 27/10/2019 15:15

Air-iss

The one I know is an american teenager with a very loud voice and lots of opinions that are more important than all of her peers opinions. She constantly talks over everyone.

Unfortunately it's really put me off the name!
