What do you think? Is it too male dominated?

I’m afraid I really don’t like it as a first name - not only a nickname, but a boy’s nickname.

But so much better if a NN for Joanna, Joanne, Josephine, Joy, or even Jolene. Quite cute then, but your daughter has the option of using a more serious or feminine sounding name later on.

I have a friend with a dd who went by 'Joey' for a few years. It suited her as a younger child but now she is a young adult she doesn't like it anymore. Fortunately her parents gave her a longer version, so she has options.

As well as Josephine, and Jolene, there is Joanne, and Joanna. Would none of them work ?

Only as a nickname for a proper name.

Yawn. I know so many baby/toddler Joeys who are all girls. All are short for something though like Josephine or Joanne. This is in the US though so I think it’s less common in the U.K. You could certainly do a lot worse though.

I’ve taught a Joanna, who was always known as Joey and I really like it (another Dawson’s Creek fan here!).

Prefer Josie

CravingCheese · 25/10/2019 10:01

No. Not as a full, standalone name. It's too cutesy imo...

How about Jo?

VenusClapTrap · 25/10/2019 11:25

Fine as a nickname. Not fine as a stand-alone name.

Astronica · 26/10/2019 07:05

I quite like it but would prefer it as a nickname.

I like it and I know a lovely Joey in her early 30s. Buuuut as so many PP have said I think it’s better as a diminutive of a “fuller” name. It gives more choice as they grow up. My friend is Joanna (which is also nice I think)

My step sister is Joelle, we call her Joey
