Baby boy name decision help needed

We are expecting baby number 3 in a month, and struggling to conclude on what we should call him... We have Zachary and Alice already. Our front runners are Samuel (Sam), Tobias (Toby), Theodore (Theo). The concerns about each are that Sam and Zac are similar-ish, I'm not super keen on Tobias, but don't want only Toby on the birth certificate and our DD can't really say the "th" sound, so Theo would sound like fee-o. Any views on the above- or other names we should consider based on what we already have? Many thanks!

Samuel is love and is my favourite. I don’t think Sam and Zac are too close.

Other thoughts:

Benjamin or Benedict, nn Ben
Edward or Edmund, nn Ted

Or Rory, Louis, Barnaby, Leo?

LarkDescending · 19/10/2019 12:48

*Samuel is lovely, that was meant to say.

diddlediddle · 19/10/2019 13:24

Samuel is lovely with your other children's names. I don't think Zac and Sam are too similar at all, I think they sound good together. They're all classic names that aren't over-used.

Not keen on Tobias at all and don't think it goes with the other names, it's more prissy and doesn't sound great with Alice.

Theodore sounds nice with the other names but is quite zeitgeisty at the moment, which is different to your other children's names.

Go for Samuel!

All lovely names, I would go for Samuel.

YesIReallyDoLikeRootBeer · 19/10/2019 19:59

I love them all, but Toby is my favorite (Tobias is ok).
If your only concern with Theo is your daughter saying it, she will eventually be able to say TH so I would not use that as a deterrent.
I also don't think Zac and Sam are close, they go well together.

bridgetreilly · 19/10/2019 21:45

I think Toby is a name in its own right, not just a shortening of Tobias, so I wouldn't hesitate to use it on the birth certificate.

Also, your DD will grow up and be able to say Theo perfectly normally soon enough.

In order, my preferences are Toby, Theo, Sam.

Thanks for all the help so far- very good food for thought!

Love all three names. Samuel top

Leopardprintboots · 19/10/2019 22:52

Oh no but I love Theo and Toby. Sorry can’t decide

All work with sibling names

Shagged · 19/10/2019 22:55

Toby would get my vote. Much nicer than Tobias IMHO and a perfectly decent name in its own right.

Sam is nice enough but there are really more than enough Sams in the world already and Theodore is a bit 'now' so less of a classic than Zachary or Alice

MrsBertBibby · 19/10/2019 23:46

Toby is great as it stands. Tobin is another possibility.

Sam is also great, and not at all like Zac.

MrsBertBibby · 19/10/2019 23:47

Theo is clearly out if your husband can't say it!

Mumof21989 · 20/10/2019 07:07

I like Toby but Tobias is a totally different name to me lol. I also like sam. I'm one of these people who thinks you may aswel give them the shortened name if that's what you want to call them. I know a girl called Elanor and she was called Ella from day one and it's not even obvious she's not called Ella. I don't know why they didn't just called her Ella as she's never going to use Her full name as she's never had it said to her and it would sound weird I presume lol

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/10/2019 07:12

Zac, Alice and Toby.

Lovely combination.

RoseMartha · 20/10/2019 07:53

Sam and Zach sounds fine to me no sameish about them.

Other ideas
Alistair
Benedict
Elliot
Harvey
Jonathan
Lysander
Marcus

Ellmau · 20/10/2019 17:42

Toby is a perfectly legitimate name in its own right.

Your DD won't be stuck on her 'th' sound forever. Don't make that the reason to rule the name out if you like it.

Zac and Sam sound fine together if you just think about the boys. However, I think Zac, Alice and Sam (or Theo) doesn't flow as well as Zac, Alice and Toby. So I think my vote goes to Toby.

Charlesandfred · 20/10/2019 17:47

My nephew is Tobias but we do call him Toby. Lovely name .
Also nice are
Freddie
Rory
Louie
Jacob
Harry
Oscar

whatty · 20/10/2019 20:30

Thanks again all- am not sure we are quite decided on Toby or Sam- but it's great to have your views and we can refer back to this when he arrives in 4 weeks!

Leo!
I much prefer it to Theo, avoids any issues pronouncing "th" and the L sound is just nicer.

I also like Toby. If you're not a fan of Tobias (I'm not either) how about Tobin??

I'm not a fan of Sam, nothing particularly wrong with it but I prefer the others on your list.

MissHenty · 20/10/2019 22:00

I LoVE Sam ❤️ @whatty
