Help! Boys names! If I like...

Bellasblankexpression · 18/10/2019 09:07

Yep it’s one of these threads. Why are boys names so hard?!

If we like:
Oscar
Alfie
Archie
Charlie

Any other suggestions? Our surname is Billing so I don’t really want a name with a B In the middle like Albert as it sounds clunky to my ears.

I want a bit of a bigger shortlist ideally as I like those names but don’t LOVE any at the moment.

Sorry but they are so overused. Apart from Oscar. That’s a nice name.
Sebastian has the B but goes with Billing I think!
Miles
Milo
Giles
Luke
I just don’t like those ie ending names for boys. I also love James but cannot stand Jamie.

Bellasblankexpression · 18/10/2019 10:34

I know they’re over used but I think I’m going to have to just accept that I like popular names 🤷🏼‍♀️ Thanks for the suggestions! I plan to show DH this thread and then hopefully we will find some others we like

Of your list I only like Charlie.

MrsBertBibby · 18/10/2019 11:06

Another vote for Oscar off your list. I really dislike the nick-name as name thing.

Conrad
Torin

Call him Max and set him up for a career in law Grin

babycakes1010 · 18/10/2019 11:10

We had alfie and Archie on our list for youngest ds but went with Frankie.
Also had Ronnie and Harvey

Lavenderblues · 18/10/2019 11:31

I don't like any (different tastes) but you may also like
Teddie
Bertie
Ernie

MissHenty · 18/10/2019 11:36

I actually don’t think these names are overused @Bellasblankexpression

I know more Arlo’s than I know Oscar Charlie or Archie. There’s actually isn’t a single Oscar Charlie or Archie in my sons (small) school. There’s no boys with those names at my other DC nursery either.

They’re lovely names - classics

I couldn’t choose between them

december20100 · 18/10/2019 12:34

Samuel, Timothy, Elliott?

Lisajg23 · 18/10/2019 12:36

I like Charlie the most out of your choices x

Bellasblankexpression · 18/10/2019 13:10

Thank you for all the feedback! That’s interesting @MissHenty, I think it preferences and popularity really differ by region/area

3/4 of your list are diminutives. Will you register with the full name and use the nickname yourselves or will you saddle him with a cutesie version for life?
Other diminutives:
Stevie
Jamie
Bobby: I know you said no Bs but there are so many it sounds ok!
Joshie
Names more like Oscar:
Elliott
Felix
Jonathon
Richard
Rufus

Burt, Ernie, Big Bird (sorry, couldn't resist)

Shadow1234 · 18/10/2019 17:00

I like all the names on your list, but Charlie would be my favourite.

Other suggestions:

Joshua
Fraser
Jake
Elijah
Ellis
Zachary (Zac)
Louis

PrincessLouis · 18/10/2019 17:22

How about:

Johnny
Sammy
Ben
Tom
Jimmy
Andy
Freddie
Ned

Chocolatecake12 · 18/10/2019 17:28

Thomas
Matthew
Isaac
Oliver
Max
Harry
Jacob (b though)
Alexander
William

But Oscar and Charlie from your list are lovely names too!

NoSauce · 18/10/2019 17:47

Oscar is nice. Dislike Alfie, not keen on Archie.

Henry
James
Louis
Arthur
Elijah
Jack - overused though
Thomas
Peter
Mathew
Rory

Pcosmama · 18/10/2019 18:23

Firstly, I don't think names can be "overused" they're just popular names because they're nice surely? What's the obsession with having an unusual name anyway?

Secondly I don't think it's "saddling a child with a cutesy name" at all, I know many adult Charlies of both sexes that never go by Charles or Charlotte so why bother as a formality? How many 'Archibalds' do you know anyway?

Anyways, I really like your list and you might also like
Benji
(I know you said no Bs but Benji Billing is great in my opinion!)

Arthur

Freddie

I have Charlie and Freddie. Both lovely 😁.

I think that it depends where you live to whether a name is popular or not? Where I live these names are not common but I know they are in other parts of the country. At the end of the day if you like the name that's all that matters.
