Like all the names, but Rowan the best.

MissHenty · 16/10/2019 20:07

I prefer Flynn

Over the past 2 years Rowan has rocketed from nowhere to now being a top 80 name. During that timeframe the name RoMan (with an M) has risen even faster - it’s one of the fastest rising names of all. It’s now top 50 and will be top 20 soon on current trajectory. The two RoMans at my sons nursery always get muddled up with with the Rowan there (there’s also a RoNan, but I think that name is actually very rare). The mother of Rowan has told me it gets frustrating being asked “is your son Roman with an M or W”? A couple of years ago this wouldn’t have been a problem

I also don’t like the inevitable nickname “Row” , which sounds a bit like Row Row Row your boat.

Flynn does sound a bit like Finn but I think the “Y” sound carries it enough to stop it getting confused with Finn. Flynn is actually a very cool name- hadn’t really thought about it much before. I like that it can’t get shortened as it’s one syllabul.

If you were wanting other suggestions, how about

Rex
Barnaby
Rudy/Rudi
Otis
Jasper
Reuben

I still love Flynn just as much as any of my suggestions though ❤️

Ps. Isaac is a lovely classic name.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 16/10/2019 20:09

I have a niamh and a son with the middle name isaac so i thinkbyou have great taste! However I don't love any of the other names but i like rohan the best so that gets my vote ☺

mintich · 16/10/2019 20:15

Love Flynn and Rowan! Not much help

Lisajg23 · 16/10/2019 20:18

Thank you Misshenty that is really interesting I wasn't aware it was so popular I do still like Rowan but that may have put me off slightly!

Do also like Finn but is very popular where we live.

Thank you, I also love Isaac and am finding it difficult to choose a boys name that i like as much tbh.
Although it too has grown in popularity now, but it wasn't when be was born, he is 7 x

I love Rohan!

MissHenty · 16/10/2019 21:36

Hmm ok if as you say you “don’t love” any/either of these names @Lisajg23 then I think you’re right, it seems like you maybe haven’t found “the one” yet. I’ll get my thinking cap on and come back with some more suggestions.

So I can think of some, can I just ask, do you mind about popularity x

MissHenty · 16/10/2019 21:38

I think RoHan is traditionally an Asian/Indian name isn’t it? The ones I know of are Indian, not that that should preclude it (perhaps you are Indian or perhaps it isn’t an issue), I just thought it was worth mentioning

VerbenaGirl · 16/10/2019 21:41

I like Rowan.

CatSmize · 16/10/2019 21:43

I prefer Flynn.

Rachele1994 · 16/10/2019 21:47

I like rowan

Lisajg23 · 16/10/2019 21:53

@MissHenty that would be great, thank you. No, I am not Indian, It is Rowan as in type of tree or as in rowan atkinson) I just prefer the spelling Rohan.

I find it hard to find something that fits with isaac and neve. I have some Irish heritage so was thinking would like something Irish to go with neve or something biblical to go with isaac. But I think I've been through every biblical name there is and husband doesn't like any apart from Isaac! Only name he likes is Brodie, but I do not. He thinks Flynn and Rowan are ok.

Popularity wise would prefer something not in the too 100 UK names list, but I think popularity varies quite alot by region. We are in the north west.

Thanks for your help x

I vote Flynn

Also dont like nickname Row plus the Roman/Rowan similarity would concern me. Roman is suddenly getting very popular in the baby groups round here, I think it’s because of all the famous Roman’s that have appeared recently: Roman Kemp the radio DJ, there’s a very famous YouTuber called Roman plus the new hit TV show “succession”, the main character is Roman in that.

Rowan is also a girl’s name to me as I have a friend with that name.

How about Seth, Jude, Eli, Ellis, Elliot or Aaron ?

Leopardprintboots · 16/10/2019 21:59

Ralph? Matthew?

Isaac is a lovely name. Hope you find something you love as much.

IncrediblySadToo · 16/10/2019 22:13

I’m with DH, I like Brodie

Ruary?

Nathan (Nate)

Lisajg23 · 16/10/2019 22:32

@Leopardprintboots

Thank you, I do like Jude and seth however dh is not not keen, have also suggested Rory but he said no to that too.

Very difficult to agree. Flynn and Rowan are the only ones he said are ok x

@Lisajg23

Brodie is nice

But don’t pick that if your not sure.

You said you’d ideally prefer a name outside the top 100 lists. Have a look at this link - it lists the top 1,000 names (not just too 100), so you could skip the top 100 names and then start scrolling. I bet one of the names between 100 and 300 will pop out at you

How about Miles or Milo?
How about Peter, that’s another classic name like Isaac but is far less popular.
Or alternatively how about Fraser or Robin?

See what you think when you’ve clicked on the link and looked at the lists

Astronica · 17/10/2019 00:12

I prefer Flynn. I also prefer the Rohan spelling over Rowan.

LorelaiRoryEmily · 17/10/2019 00:55

@Lisajg23 I think Rowan is lovely, I'm not sure if you're aware but Rohan is a pretty common surname in Ireland and pronounced Differently to Rowan
It's like Row(as in row a boat)-hn with no emphasis on the a sound.
Someone else might be able to explain better🙈

My point is I'd spell it Rowan and it's a great name!

Hydrogenbeatsoxygen · 17/10/2019 01:00

Rowan ❤️

miamiibiza · 17/10/2019 01:01

Flynn

Exitstrategist · 17/10/2019 01:03

Elliott?
