Opinions on baby girl name

Me and my OH are really swaying towards naming our baby girl Winter...

I realise this isn't a lot of people's cup of tea but I just think the name is so pretty and rare... also a reason is that I really liked the name Winnie however my OH felt like it wasn't substantial as her real first name hence why we then thought of Winter with nickname Winnie.

But I wanted to get a feel for what the general opinion on the name is... I feel like names like summer and April and autumn are accepted so I don't see why Winter is any different or is that just me?

TIA

I like it.

INeedAFlerken · 13/10/2019 22:48

I wanted to name our cat Winter just so we could say Winter is coming ... so you might want to prepare yourself for those kind of comments if you do.

Morado · 14/10/2019 00:23

Love it 💜

dreichsky · 14/10/2019 00:25

It's a little out there but I actually rather like it, assuming she will be born during winter and not July?

maym12345 · 14/10/2019 00:37

@dreichsky thank you! And yes she is due beginning of January so I thought that was also a sweet reason as she is born in winter...some might say that silly but each to their own I suppose! I wouldn't consider the name had she of been a summer baby haha!

dreichsky · 14/10/2019 00:40

Honestly the more I think about it the more I like it and I know a couple of Autumns in sensible adult jobs so I think it would age fine.

PandasMum · 14/10/2019 00:45

I don’t hate it but it wouldn’t be my choice

lalallalalalalala · 14/10/2019 00:45

I love it! Why not who cares as long as you love it! My baby girl is April but born in March and I loved it from 22weeks pregnant and I thought who cares if no one likes it I love it! So we named her April and ifs a rolling joke was she born in April but my reply is nope called April born in March 😀 x

I think Winter is lovely. I'm not a fan of Winnie though and would feel a good name is spoilt by the nickname.

Grumpymcgrumperson · 14/10/2019 08:07

Love Winnie! Winter is cute too!

20viona · 14/10/2019 08:10

Love it

MissHenty · 14/10/2019 08:44

It’s a cool name x

MissHenty · 14/10/2019 08:44

I really like it

mogtheexcellent · 14/10/2019 08:46

I personally love it and its actually not too zany in my opinion. However not if child is born outside of Winter. I know a Summer born in December and I find it a bit weird.

bridgetreilly · 14/10/2019 09:52

Winifred would be a much better choice, imo. I'm not a huge fan of seasons as names, but I definitely wouldn't choose Winter, the coldest, most miserable season as a name for my child.

bridgetreilly · 14/10/2019 09:53

"Now is the winter of our discontent..."

OhTheRoses · 14/10/2019 09:56

Cold, miserable, dark, frosty. Not good associations. Haha @Henty.

Anoushka1986 · 14/10/2019 09:57

I like it!

cheeseandpineapple · 14/10/2019 09:58

It’s lovely. I know a Winta, same pronunciation just different spelling.

summedup · 14/10/2019 10:01

Love it. Our surname starts with a W and DD1 was a winter baby so I wanted to call her Winter W----

Go for it Smile

CakeRattleandRoll · 14/10/2019 10:40

I like it and wouldn't consider it hugely 'out there'.

albus55 · 14/10/2019 12:20

I have a Summer and 95% of the comments I get are about how lovely it is, the other 5% are generally older people making "jokes" about the time of year, having a sibling called Winter or Autumn blah blah blah. Lovely name, go for it, but be prepared for comments from people used to more traditional names!

Shadow1234 · 14/10/2019 12:24

Love it.

FizzyGreenWater · 14/10/2019 12:44
