I’ve started hearing it everywhere. Is everyone calling their daughters Mia in 2019?

Mia has been popular for years, thought it was less so now though

MissHenty · 13/10/2019 21:28

Every year since 2012 the number of Mia’s has declined. It’s on a downward trajectory so don’t worry if you’re wanting to use it, it’s not exploding in popularity, quite the opposite!

GeoffreyAndBungle · 13/10/2019 21:29

I've not met any little Mias recently but there are several in DS's high school - I think it was probably more popular a while ago?

DariaMorgendorffer · 13/10/2019 21:32

Think it was more popular a few years ago. If you like it, why not!

Ricekrispie22 · 14/10/2019 06:37

I’m a teacher in a single-form-entry primary. We have a Mia in 4 out of 7 of the classes.

8by8 · 14/10/2019 06:43

It’s pretty popular. I’m in London and know 3 Mia’s/Maya’s under the age of 8.

megletthesecond · 14/10/2019 06:44

Not really. It's pretty but was popular a few years ago.

Grumpymcgrumperson · 14/10/2019 08:15

Yes. So overdone. It’s totally ruined the name imo

Lavenderblues · 14/10/2019 08:17

Yes, has been overused for a while
Seems to be slowly falling out of fashion

MissHenty · 14/10/2019 08:43

Look at the official data @Sugarplummy84 if you’re interested. Less and less Mia’s every year for the past 7 years . I say go for it

BethanyGilbert · 14/10/2019 13:52

I know four mias under 7

daisypond · 14/10/2019 13:55

I know a few in their mid 20s but no younger ones.

MissHenty · 14/10/2019 15:02

I only know of one Mia- friend of a friend. I have 2 kids under 4 both at nursery and playgroups etc

CharitySchmarity · 14/10/2019 16:13

Most of the Mias I know are aged between about 10 and 15 (the only one who isn't is a cat!)

angelaEhen · 14/10/2019 16:41

I alway thought it a lovely name and I don't know any, but I was told M I A stands for missing in action and that has put me off a bit

VenusClapTrap · 14/10/2019 18:31

I think Pulp Fiction caused an explosion of Mias. But that was years ago now. I only know one, and she is five.

MeMeMeYou · 14/10/2019 18:37

I’m a teacher. There were quite a few when my daughters was born, she’s 11 now. Not so many now at school. Although she went to a sports club and there were 4 out of group of 30 kids

honeybunlatte · 14/10/2019 18:52

There was 2490 Mia's born last year. It's number 6 in the ONS charts. Not to mention all the other spelling variations. So yes I would say it is very popular.
