Help! Girls names needed

Hi all.

I've just found out I'm expecting a girl and panicking slightly. Due in eight weeks - was convinced it was a boy and so had the loveliest boy's name all sorted. We had a couple of girls names floating about like Isla, Emily, Amelie and Tabitha but we can't find one we both love.

I'd prefer something traditionally Scottish as my boy's name was but finding that particularly hard!

Please throw all your suggestions at me? I'm getting a little desperate my baby won't ever have a name ....

Don’t know if these are Scottish, will just list my favourite names:

Edith
Magaret (Maggie)
Delilah
Emmy/Emmie

I really love Emily Isla and Amelie though so I’d probably stick with one of those

Ilovewillow · 13/10/2019 13:26

Isla is cute or how about
Iona
Morven

I know one of each of these and they are both lovely!

Thanks ladies! It's a daunting task, choosing a name. I was so set on the boy's name I think it hadn't quite sunk in that it's a girl.

I do like Emmy though - short for Emmaline I'm guessing?

Emmeline, Emilienne, Emily, Emma......

Give the child a real name though, not a nickname.

hiimmumma · 13/10/2019 15:16

We are in the opposite situation!
Have a girls name but found out we are having a boy.
What was yours boys name?
Our girls name was Iris

neighbourhoodwitch · 13/10/2019 15:21

Ailsa

071019DD · 13/10/2019 15:27

Emmeline is lovely. I like Tabitha too!

Bubbles121 · 13/10/2019 15:29

@hiimmumma our boy's name was Angus. It's a bit old fashioned but I loved it, I pictured this fierce little boy running out to the world ready to battle dragons with a sword in his hand and wild hair. I'm well aware the reality may have been very different but I was so sure I was having a boy it's so hard to make this big U Turn!

Iris is a beautiful name, I think I'm also struggling as I know so many people with children with the names that I like and I don't want to copy them either. I know two Irises ...

@071019DD I love Tabitha but my husband does not. I'm not sure he will ever come round to my way of thinking, although he isn't bringing much to the table so I may win by default Grin

Scottish names:

Elspeth
Eilidh
Sorcha
Ailsa
Catriona

I love Eilidh, but if you went with Elspeth, and then had a future boy called Angus, you'd end up with the kids in the Family Ness Grin (this is something to aspire to in my mind)

MissHenty · 13/10/2019 15:40

@Bubbles121 Emmy /Emmie can be the name itself not just a nickname. I’ve got a friend of a friend with an Emmie and Jenifer Lopez has an Emmy I think

JenniferM1989 · 13/10/2019 15:47

I really like Angus too. I'm trying to think of Scottish girls names beginning with A now 🤔

Agnes with Aggie for short
Amelie
Arlene

Mrsmememe · 13/10/2019 15:52

I believe Meryn or Merryn is a Scottish girls name.

071019DD · 13/10/2019 16:03

@Bubbles121 totally same here re OH! I'm 40 +6 today and he's waiting for bubba's arrival before contributing much, we dont know what we're having so he says it'll be easier if 50% of options are off the table Grin.

With Angus i immediately thought Genevieve, I had it on my short list but OH vetoed straight away. I love Eve and like Jen as Nn's. Good luck!

honeybunlatte · 13/10/2019 19:51

Mrsmememe - Merryn is Cornish.
