5 weeks and still no name! Help!

Hi everyone, first time poster here

My baby boy is almost five weeks old and my DH and I still haven’t agreed a name

I like Sebastian but DH isn’t so sure! Other names we have considered are Alexander, Nathaniel and William (I love Nathaniel but only if it’s shortened to Nate). Our surname is one syllable and begins with S if that helps! We like quite classic names but ideally not something that he will share with half of his classmates!

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Alexander was on my list too as well as Henry, George (although too popular) Christopher was on there too and we were going to shorten it to kit.

Nathaniel Sebastian?

The only problem with choosing a long name, and preferring only one shortened version of it, is that the child might decide they like another shortening of their name. And, speaking from personal experience, you might have to convince a lot of people that you haven't called your son Nathan (which is a lovely name in it's own right... but not Nathaniel!). My son answers to Nate through his own choice (see above), never to Nat and loathes being called Nathan.

Nathaniel is beautiful a timeless classic and biblical you can't go wrong

Nathaniel is good but Nate is awful IMO I just don't get the shortening logic. I knew one shortened to Nat. Much more sensible!

I don't know any adults called

Alexander, shortened to Alex is much better. Everyone uses Xander these days.

I like Alexander, Nathaniel, Christopher and most of the other suggestions on here. James is ubiquitous as a middle name but that may not bother you and it's still a nice name.

Hi all, thank you so much for all of your responses and suggestions! I’d never posted on here before and you’ve all been so helpful I’ve really liked pretty much all of the names suggested but we’ve decided on Nathaniel as we feel it goes well with our surname
I feel awful that he’s been without a name for so long! Unfortunately I’m a very indecisive person I hope he doesn’t inherit this from me!

Congratulations! And don’t worry your not the only person to wait weeks to name there DC. We decided on the morning we registered his birth

We were in the same position a few weeks ago and had the same shortlist as you, with the same views of Sebastian, Nate and Alexander! We ended up with a Finlay James...
