Can’t decide boys name!

Brookers01234 · 11/10/2019 14:37

Hi all

Need help to decide on name for baby boy due next month!

None of these names are my absolute favourites but rather names that we can compromise on!

  • Gabriel
  • Jesse
  • Myles

Middle name of either Andrew (preference) or Frederick

Also partners surname begins with S ..... so if we went with Gabriel then initials are potentially G.A.S.
Partner thinks this doesnt matter, but is off putting/concerning to me. Am I being ridiculous?

Also worried Gabriel is maybe a bit ‘wet’?

Any other suggestions?
My absolute favourite is Asa but partner dead against it Sad
Other names I like but veto’d include Rudy, Sonny, Flynn, Rowan & Gene!

Thanks in advance, we need all the help we can get!

I think Gabriel is lovely and it doesn't matter about the initials (it might be shortened to Gabe anyway). you could also think about:

Alban
Kieran
Tate
Jackson
Maxwell
Barnaby (nn Barny)

MissHenty · 11/10/2019 14:53

Firstly what names has your DP suggested (which you don’t like)?

I personally love Gabriel and love the nickname Gabe. I don’t think it’s wet whatsoever

Jesse and Myles/Miles are two of my favourites too. I think you have excellent taste

Asa sounds too much like Ass! Sorry but I don’t like it and agree with your DP

Rowan is practically identically to Roman which had come from nowhere to now be top 50 and on current trajectory will be top 20/10 soon. I wouldn’t like the fact it was continually confused. Plus I don’t like the inevitable nickname Row (Row Row your boat)

Rudy is cool and still pretty unusual. Can also be spelt Rudi

Sonny - love it!

Other suggestions

Eli
Ellis
Milo
Rupert
Rex

MissHenty · 11/10/2019 14:54

Also Barnaby

Is. I agree with your DP- initials gas doesn’t matter whatsoever

Mightygerbil · 11/10/2019 14:58

I love Gabriel. It’s my favourite boys name ever. I don’t think it’s wet. I also love Myles/Miles. I think that’s probably my second favourite.
Not keen on Jesse.

Others that come to mind:
Raphael
Niles (Frasier fan here)
Felix
Rex
Tobias
Aaron
Ethan

HotChocolateLover · 11/10/2019 14:59

Hate Gabriel. What about Toby, Jamie, James or Nathan.

joystir59 · 11/10/2019 15:11

I like Myles/Miles and think Andrew goes best with this name.

userabcname · 11/10/2019 15:12

I really like Myles (or Milo).

LarkDescending · 11/10/2019 16:27

I really like Myles, though prefer the Miles spelling.

MikeUniformMike · 11/10/2019 16:33

Not keen on Gabriel.
Don't like Jesse.
Miles is nice but I don't like Myles.

071019DD · 11/10/2019 16:46

Gabriel probably my fave, not wet at all. Really like Jesse too. I'm 40+4, have a short list and we're waiting to see what bubba looks like to pick final! Good luck OP.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 11/10/2019 16:50

Love Gabriel and like myles. Could you add another middle name if your worried about initials?

AverageMummy · 11/10/2019 16:53

Gabriel is the nicest by a long way

123Dancewithme · 11/10/2019 16:54

Miles Andrew

Bentley111 · 11/10/2019 16:56

I love Gabriel, Jesse & Myles - Gabriel & Myles were on my list if we had a boy (can't use Jesse).

Any of the three would be lovely although Gabriel is my favourite.

I do agree with your DH re GAS initials. Could you not use both middle names to combat this if you went for Gabriel?

Others you may like:
Rafe
Sebastian
Milo/Mylo
Hugo
Nathaniel
Jude
Levi

MissHenty · 11/10/2019 16:57

@071019DD 40+4 beat of luck! What’s your shortlist if you don’t mind me asking

@Brookers01234

How about
Elliot or Tristan or Ronnie

Astronica · 12/10/2019 04:29

Myles is the only one of those I like. Good name. And it sounds good with either Andrew or Frederick.

Angus
August
Garrick
Joash
Linus
Giles
Anton
Lex
Griffin
Axel

Go with Gabriel.

bridgetreilly · 12/10/2019 19:19

Gabriel Frederick or Miles Andrew.

CravingCheese · 12/10/2019 19:28

Gabriel is wonderful imo. Absolutely gorgeous!
Myles is nice.

I don't really like Jesse tbh.

17caterpillars1mouse · 12/10/2019 19:46

Gabriel - many years ago (around 11) I worked in a nursery and there was a little 2 year old called Gabriel, he was the sweetest little boy and so gorgeous so I've always liked the name since then. When coming up with names for my children I still loved it but it just didn't feel very us. Such a lovely name though

-Jesse - it's OK. I know a 3 year old Jesse he is very self-assured which I think is a good thing with a name like Jesse as I imagine it would be tough for a introverted teenage boy to pull off

  • Myles - I'm not a fan but it's OK
MissHenty · 12/10/2019 19:53

Have these been any help @Brookers01234

cptartapp · 12/10/2019 19:54

Gabriel is a bit wet. Rather effeminate. So is Jesse.
Elias,
Evan,
Initials don't matter.

C0untDucku1a · 12/10/2019 19:58

Gabriel isnt wet. It’s a great name. As is Gabe.

What about Asher?

I love Jesse but an s sound at the end of the first name followed by an s sound at the start of the surname might be a bit much.

soontobeanana · 12/10/2019 20:01

I love Gabriel

CravingCheese · 12/10/2019 20:03

If you lice Asa...
How about Elijah, Isaia, Mica, Dimitri, Enea or Joshua? You might also like Fintan, Ronan, Roman, Raphael, Michael, Ari, Alcide, Eugene, Myron, Valentin, Armando or Dario.
