Arlo

Me and DH decided a number of years ago that we loved the name Arlo for a boy.

It's now rocketed in popularity and I'm wondering what your thoughts are on whether it's now too popular? I always thought I wouldn't be bothered about how popular a name is but now I'm not sure.

Also what are your thoughts on these girls names:
Alice
Phoebe
Freya
Erin

Any other boy or girl suggestions?

It’s very trendy. I know lots of little Arlos.

Roozy123 · 05/10/2019 18:50

My neighbours child is an Arlo.

FriedasCarLoad · 05/10/2019 18:52

I’d worry that Arlo is so fashionable that it will date badly.

Love Phoebe and Alice, like Erin.

Not so keen on Freya, not least because it’s a bit overused at the moment.

Really like Alice, Arlo is OK.

Manicpixiedreambitch · 05/10/2019 19:00

I always think Erin is a boy's name.

Arlo probably will date, but most names do.

yetanothernane · 05/10/2019 19:15

I wanted Arlo for our ds but dp said no 😠. I've never met one but I'm north east and we are over run with Charlie's, Reuben's and Oliver's.

I really like Erin for a girl out of your girls list, they others a bit 'meh'.

Rachelover60 · 05/10/2019 19:50

Arlo is a cool, hippy sort of name.

I like all the girls names you mention except for Freya.

justforthisnow · 05/10/2019 19:52

That's the name of my mum's security camera system.

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 05/10/2019 19:53

Every other little boy in London is called Arlo at the moment.

Lovely name.

joystir59 · 05/10/2019 19:55

Arlo is awful

Mesmeri · 05/10/2019 19:57

Only if you like Arlo Guthrie. Actually, why not Guthrie?

MissHenty · 05/10/2019 20:01

I’ve not met an Arlo yet in 3-4 years at my local baby groups. It’s fairly popular in that I wouldn’t be surprised to meet one but it’s such a lovely sounding name. I think popularity matters less for boys’ names anyway. I think you should go for it as you’ve liked it for ages

Alice is one of my top favourite girls’ names. An absolute classic. Like your other names too but Alice is the best

GarlicMartini · 05/10/2019 20:56

Hmm mixed but ok feedback on Arlo! Thank you for the responses. We're not in London we're in the NW and no one I know personally has had an Arlo yet I've just seen on MN and in the ONS stats that its risen in popularity, I think on the latest list Arlo is at number 30 odd or somewhere round there which is why i thought I'd scout out opinions!

Arlo Alexander would probably be the full name but if we dont go for Arlo we have no other options we love!

It reminds me of my security camera system which is called Arlo

mondler · 05/10/2019 21:06

I've not met an Arlo yet in the 10 months of baby groups in the South East. I think it's a nice name and if you love it go for it. You'll say it a million times so it's more important you like it.

I've met babies with all your girls name. A few Freyas and phoebes .

hungryhippie · 05/10/2019 21:26

Arlo makes me instantly think of the dinosaur from Disney's The Good Dinosaur. I really don't like it.

It would make a good name for a pet though.

MissHenty · 05/10/2019 21:34

No way is Arlo a name for a pet IMO

It’s such a great name for a little boy and Arlo Alexander is a perfect combo @GarlicMartini

MollyHuaCha · 05/10/2019 21:41

Arlo sounds like Harlow in an 'Ertfordshire accent.

GeoffreyAndBungle · 05/10/2019 21:44

As I'm from Essex, it just sounds like Harlow said in the local accent - 'Arlo

And Harlow's not really the sort of place you want to name a child after.

GarlicMartini · 05/10/2019 23:02

Haha I quite like the film the good dinosaur and I'm not from the SE I'm from the NW (cheshire) so dont mind about the harlow thing as I've never been/have no idea what the place is like :)

My boy is Arlo . We love it because we named him after Arlo Guthrie a peace activist .
Hes 11 now.

We must live in a cave because iv never met another in all that time!!

Rachelover60 · 06/10/2019 06:03

I thought of Arlo Guthrie too, Garlic. Good name.

LoreleiRock · 06/10/2019 06:29

Arlo was on our list for our son over 20 years ago, and everyone had the same idea then! It has grown even more popular every year.

Astronica · 06/10/2019 08:06

I'm not keen on Arlo. I think I like more consonants.
All your girl names are nice, and I particularly like Alice and Phoebe.

GarlicMartini · 06/10/2019 11:36

Thanks all for all your feedback!

When we decided we loved it it was outside of the top 100, I think we'll stick with it and just decide that its shot up in popularity because we've got great taste Grin😂
