I don’t like it - sounds too much like quim

RueCambon · 05/10/2019 14:41

Not keen.

It just reminds me of supermarkets!

mamaoffourdc · 05/10/2019 14:41

I was going to name mine Quinn but people just kept saying quim to me and I couldn't get it out of my head 😔

pinkyredrose · 05/10/2019 14:42

Makes me think of quim.

HarrietM87 · 05/10/2019 14:46

Hate it. It’s an Irish surname, not a first name - I just don’t like the surname as first name trend, especially if you’ve got no Irish links.

DramaAlpaca · 05/10/2019 14:52

I hate it for a boy, and it's even worse on a girl.

I don't like this trend for turning Irish surnames into first names. It's silly even if you have Irish links, as anyone Irish would be very unlikely to use an Irish surname as a first name, especially for a girl.

OkayGo · 05/10/2019 14:53

I like it

Igotthemheavyboobs · 05/10/2019 15:00

Haha really not popular then! Back to the drawing board

It works with an American accent, but the regional accents of England and especially Ireland (speaking as a resident of one country and born in the other) somehow make it sound odd. Not sure why.

Many American tv shows have female characters named 'Quinn' and I like it, but when I imagine some of my relatives (differing accents) saying it, it sometimes sounds wrong.

Would you consider something like Erin instead! (Has 'in' sounds and Irish connections?)

Charlottejbt · 05/10/2019 15:01

You learn something new here every day! Blush I would have thought of the song The Mighty Quinn, which is great but doesn't make you want to name a girl after it. Surely the surname trend must have peaked by now?

Conceptionhelp · 05/10/2019 15:03

I have just had to Google quim as I've never come across the term in my life and Quinn was my maiden name! Haha

I think quinns a good strong name but I may be biased as like I said it was my maiden name :)

MrsLoganEcholls · 05/10/2019 15:04

I've got a boy Quinn and I think it's great.

RobinsParasiticEye · 05/10/2019 15:08

Looks like Quim and normally a boys name here?

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 05/10/2019 15:09

I'll go against the grain here and say I like it for a girl.

And have never heard of "quim" had to google.

Lavenderblues · 05/10/2019 15:22

Quinn is more popular as a boys name. I like it and find it strong and cool!

Don't like it for a girl as it's very unfeminine imo.

Lavenderblues · 05/10/2019 15:26

Boys name!

Never heard of quim, seems a Mumsnet thing..Confused

feelingchange · 05/10/2019 15:58

I really like it for a girl. I also had to google quim, is that a regional saying?

Shadow1234 · 05/10/2019 16:06

I only discovered the word quim on mn a few months ago (and I'm in my 50's! - perhaps I led a sheltered life!).

I love the name Quinn, but I do prefer it for a boy.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 05/10/2019 16:08

And have never heard of "quim" had to google

Same, never heard of this before ha

One of my favourite girls names tbh, love it!

NoSauce · 05/10/2019 16:11

Up there with the worst of names.

NoSauce · 05/10/2019 16:12

Quim isn’t a mn thing Grin

Icantthinkofanewname87 · 05/10/2019 16:35

Love it! Only ever heard it as a girls name, had no idea it was unisex. I think it’s lovely.

Icantthinkofanewname87 · 05/10/2019 16:36

Also literally never heard the word quim in my life

Dljlr · 05/10/2019 16:39

Quim is def not 'an MN thing'. Why assume so just because of your own ignorance? I was introduced to it as a teenager in Judy Blume's books.
