Looking for opinions on Calista?
Is it too unusual to use?
Do you think its a "pretty" name for a girl? That would fit well all through life?
Would it go nicely with Noah and Jacob?
Thank you Smile

It's quite nice. I like that it's a bit different. I don't know what 'goes' with Noah and Jacob except for names like Esther for a biblical theme, or names like Ava for a modern popular theme. Just use a name you like.

Very pretty tho I prefer Callisto.

lottiegarbanzo · 04/10/2019 16:45

Wouldn't Callisto be male?

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 04/10/2019 17:10

Also thought of ally mcbeal straight away but it's pretty and I don't think they'll be many with the same name

Callisto is a Greek goddess, Callista is a variant.

I love the mention of Calla upthread, it would be too of my girl list if I wasn't old and done with babaies Grin

It's Cal list a.

midsomermurderess · 04/10/2019 18:17

In many European languages 'a does not a;ways denote feminine, see eg Andrea or Nicola.

Charlottejbt · 05/10/2019 07:17

Make sure you use the proper spelling: Callista, with two Ls. Calista is an American actress with a "uniquely" spelled name.

I think it's fine with the other names.

Charlottejbt · 05/10/2019 07:25

Actually, if you wanted to be unusual without being vulgar, you could spell it with a K. That's how Greek names are often transliterated these days, e.g. Alkibiades rather than Alcibiades. The Latinized spellings with a C rather than a K are more traditional.

Then again, if you want to go with the Calista spelling in your original post, it's your call. I have a Classics degree and spent far too long obsessing over which version of which names to give my DCs!

I really like it, I’d consider it if I ever have a DD.
