What do you think of Lily Rose?
Would use Lily Rose all the time but dislike hyphens.
The name came to me suddenly and sounds really pretty the more I say it.
Look forward to hearing your opinions.

Who cares if it's on a 'downward trajectory' or outside the top 10?

It's still a very common, over-used name.

And if it's on a downward trajectory, that just means it's so common that it's tired and dating already.

Hardly a selling point.

As I said, the OP can do better.

MissHenty · 03/10/2019 09:24

Thats personal preference @OooErMissus

I personally prefer names that aren’t massively increasing year on year. That was you know what to expect

I wouldn’t say people are sick of lily! It’s number 13! It’s just extremely unlikely to enter the top ten in the next few years and I find that quite reassuring

Plus I was arguing with people that said lily is now the equivalent of Sarah

Sarah was number 1 girls name for practically the entirety of the 80s! Lily is number 13 and hasn’t been in top 10 the past few years, so it’s really not comparable. I’m a total stats and names geek as you can probably tell 🤣

MissHenty · 03/10/2019 09:25

*wat

OooErMissus · 03/10/2019 09:31

Again, I couldn't care less what the names actual ranking is. Confused

It's a common, over-used name, regardless of whether it's number 1, number 5, or number 13.

It's an of-the-moment name that is a bit yawnsome, and will date to this era.

Its actual ranking is irrelevant.

MissHenty · 03/10/2019 09:52

Fair enough. Definitely not looking to argue here 😃

The stand by the fact that Lily is not the equivalent of Sarah in the 1980s though (actually quite like the name Sarah anyway 🙈). Plus the number one name in the 80s (Sarah) was used for far more babies each year than the number one name (Olivia) is used for today. I think they say 60% of all names would be top 100 names in the 1980s but it’s only 40% now so there’s much more variety.

Each to their own

I really like Lily Rose but would potentially change the middle name so they aren’t both flower names incase your daughter is more of a Tom boy and wants to go by her middle name rather than first name. I usually pick first name and middle names that are very different to give my child options. Who knows my child may still hate both options 🤣

NoSauce · 03/10/2019 11:41

Boring and common.

Stiltons · 03/10/2019 11:48

I wonder what 'exciting' names the people who say Lily is boring have named their children?

If you like it, go for it. I have an unusual name and hated that I stuck out so much at primary school. I longed to be a Sarah or rebecca or claire.

Gummibaerchen1 · 03/10/2019 12:11

Boring from being overused. Already starting to feel a little dated.

MsTSwift · 03/10/2019 12:32

The choice isn’t lily, Amelia or moon unit. There are lots of lovely underused proper names. Off top of head Tess, Zoe, Miranda, Susannah (none my kids names). Odd everyone picks the same few names it does make them dull and Lily is one of them. For me Eve grace any Isabel name and Olivia are in the over used bored now bracket too.

TFSRM · 03/10/2019 12:37

I think of Johnny Depp's daughter

Gummibaerchen1 · 03/10/2019 12:57

I wonder what 'exciting' names the people who say Lily is boring have named their children?

Names don't need to 'exciting'! Names do however need to identify a person, and that becomes difficult if the same name is used for thousands of little girls. Such overused names also tend to fall out of fashion and sound 'dated'.

OooErMissus · 03/10/2019 13:52

I wonder what 'exciting' names the people who say Lily is boring have named their children?

I haven't given my kids particularly 'exciting' names. Most people don't, outside of celebrity circles.

But there's a vast swathe of names between 'exciting' and over-used.

Lily isn't a bad name. It's a nice name, but it's been used a lot recently, so it just sounds a bit tired /

It's hard to get excited about it. Especially when you add Rose to the end of it!

The OP has asked for opinions on the name Lily Rose, on a forum expressly designed for people to get opinions on potentially baby names.

If someone introduced their new baby to me as Lily Rose, I'd say, 'ah, lovely!' as any normal person would.

user1573354 · 03/10/2019 14:04

'the name came to me suddenly' GrinGrinGrin
I do an eye roll at any name followed by Rose/Grace/Mae/Anne. Particularly if it is Lily/Ella/Olivia/Isobel etc. So boring. It's a shame because Lily actually is a nice name, it's just been ruined now.

LemonPrism · 03/10/2019 14:27

Lily Rose Potter is Harry Potters daughter. FYI

LemonPrism · 03/10/2019 14:28

I love it though, and would consider Lily if not for a clash w DPs surname 🙄

KimberWozRobbed · 03/10/2019 14:54

Harry Potters daughter is Lily Luna.

user1493494961 · 03/10/2019 14:55

People are getting their knickers in a bit of a twist here! It's a very pretty name Op, if you love it use it.

Phuquocdreams · 03/10/2019 14:57

Yes, makes me think of lily rose depp.

Gummibaerchen1 · 03/10/2019 15:20

I much prefer Calista.

Samosaurus · 03/10/2019 15:22

I know two Lily Roses both born in past two years. It’s a nice name OP but not very original. But if you like it then that shouldn’t matter.

Wavyheaded · 03/10/2019 15:39

Very boring and unimaginative. (sorry!)

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 03/10/2019 15:47

One of my best friends has a 4 year old lily Rose, mainly called lily or lils but as I have a daughter called Isabel Grace were both screwed on here 😂

pikapikachu · 03/10/2019 15:50

Lily is fine but don't pair it with Rose which is overused as a middle name. Is there a middle name ranking? Bet Rose and Mae would dominate.

daisypond · 03/10/2019 17:12

How about Rosalie? Very similar sounds.

LemonPrism · 03/10/2019 18:28

@KimberWozRobbed is rose Hermione and Tons kid?
