I’m not keen to be honest. Is it a flower name you are after?

joystir59 · 28/09/2019 21:47

Bloody stupid

Longdistance · 28/09/2019 21:50

Wasn’t there the black dahlia murders in the US?

I wouldn’t choose it as a name.

MrsRufusdog789 · 28/09/2019 21:50

Nice looking flower however earwigs love them . That puts me off .

HotSince82 · 28/09/2019 21:51

My only thought is the black Dahlia.
How about Dinah or Delilah?

lazylinguist · 28/09/2019 21:51

Pronounced with an 'ah' sound, or an 'ay' sound? Because your suggested nickname suggests the latter, but (certainly in the UK) the flower is usually pronounced day-lia, which might cause confusion.

alexdgr8 · 28/09/2019 21:52

No.
might as well call her Geranium.
why not give her a proper name, that does not gives rise to titters, raised eyebrows, schoolyard mocking.
think of the child.
there are plenty of sensible, interesting names.
please think of the child, they will be lumbered with it.

MrsBungle · 28/09/2019 21:54

I love it! Not keen on Dali, but I think dahlia is a beautiful name!

This ^^

MrsRufusdog789 · 28/09/2019 21:55

Just thought - with Dahlia as a forename and Dali as NN she might be nicknamed Sal after the Surrealist artist Salvador Dali ?

autumndreaming · 28/09/2019 21:55

I thought of the black dahlia murders too

alexdgr8 · 28/09/2019 21:55

who suggested Delilah ? are you mad ? look what she did to Samson !

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 28/09/2019 21:56

Why on earth would Dahlia cause titters and mocking?

I went to school with a Dahlia and there was zero issue.

I am not particularly keen on the name but it is no worse than many.

HotSince82 · 28/09/2019 22:03

alexdgr8

Precisely.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 28/09/2019 22:04

I know a Dalia. I like it (and her).

AverageMummy · 28/09/2019 22:06

I really like it but where the flower is pronounced ‘day’ people always get the name confused so that would probably annoy me too much

kenandbarbie · 28/09/2019 22:22

I find it a bit frumpy. It's not a very dynamic or charismatic sounding flower. I agree that it's similar to geranium.

Neilsfavouritechilli · 28/09/2019 22:24

I really like it. Mind you I love dahlias so I might be biased. It feels very 20's as a name. Mind you that might be because of Jeeves and Wooster.

Neilsfavouritechilli · 28/09/2019 22:26

Also the nickname surely would sound like daily rather than daali.

rollNsausage · 28/09/2019 22:28

The black dahlia murder and copycat murders here in the UK

Definite no no

(old fashioned and wierd name anyway)

DramaAlpaca · 28/09/2019 22:51

I'm not keen. There are many more nicer flower names out there.

Answerthequestion · 28/09/2019 22:53

i love it. I know of a lot of Dahlia and Dalia’s.

user1493494961 · 28/09/2019 22:59

I knew a little Dahlia (ah sound), the family were Egyptian.

PancakeAndKeith · 28/09/2019 23:03

My first thought was the Black Dahlia murders too.

VenusClapTrap · 29/09/2019 04:53

I know a Dalia. Nice name.
