Modern & Spiritual middle name for Reya?

We had originally chosen the name: Reya Eden Sky, but I hadn’t realised how popular the name Eden had become.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for a girl’s name with a spiritual flavour - that isn’t too traditional or old-fashioned, for our more modern naming style?

It doesn’t have to be an obvious connection - a name that has a spiritual or virtuous meaning, or the name of a Saint that sounds more modern... we’re open to anything, really.

2 Syllables, like Eden would be perfect.

Our DS #1 is called: Brody Rocco Shae (Rocco is a Saint). Xx

Gaia

I think it’s too close to sounding to Reya. X

There are biblical women

Ester- means star, but Queen Ester saved the Jews of Persia from massacre and it’s her bravery that the Purim holiday celebrates today.

Noa- first feminist she argued with Moses that she should be able to inherit her fathers land even though it was against patriarchy. She won halfway in the Moses agreed so long as she married within the tribe.

If you want to consider the Persian from Old Testament for Sky, it is “Asman” and also has double meaning of heaven as well as sky.

Reya Ester Asman (Reya Star Sky) but Star also = Queen Ester and her saving of the Jews of Persia. She has her own book in the Talmud. She’s more than a character, but a heroine.

coconuttymummy · 28/09/2019 00:16

Kali is the Goddess of destruction, I think! X

Lileth. The first woman, from the apocrypha. The reason God made eve from Adams run was because Lileth was so much trouble! (read independent)! I love Lileth. Sad I didn't have a girl to use it on!

DonPablo · 28/09/2019 00:20

Adams rib! So he'd be more like Adam...

coconuttymummy · 28/09/2019 07:26

@DoctorAllcome I do like Noa a lot. Unfortunately it doesn’t play well with Reya 😭

Lilith is seen as a demoness by many, so wouldn’t be quite what we’re looking for! 😁

@DoctorAllcome I adore your apt use of our preferred themes/meanings via the name Asman .... unfortunately, neither of us like the actual name. 😢

Likewise, with Ester. What a strong heritage that name has. Sadly, it’s just too traditional/old-fashioned for our tastes.

I adore their meanings, though. X

Which is the Celtic name? Perhaps I’m missing something. How about Aster instead of Esther? Or Vita - meaning life?

VenusClapTrap · 28/09/2019 08:05

Reya isn’t a ‘modern’ name. It was the name of my great great great aunt, born in 1847. She spelt it Reyia though. Nice, unusual name though!

How about a nature name?
Reya Storm
Reya Meadow
Reya Sequoia

VenusClapTrap · 28/09/2019 08:08

Actually, not Storm. Sounds like rainstorm 🤦🏻‍♀️

I like Caritas.

Charity is the anglicised version ans works too.

AppleDragon · 28/09/2019 09:17

Esti is a lovely diminutive of Ester and works well as a standalone name

coconuttymummy · 28/09/2019 09:21

@appledragon I quite like Esti and Inez. I'm not sure if they work with Reya? x

@purbal I love Charity, but I used that name for my 1st baby, which ended in 2nd tri loss.
