Rose as a first name?

MunsteadWood · 23/09/2019 09:43

Found out recently that DC2 is a girl. I've always loved the name Rose and luckily DH does too. So I think we're probably going to go with that, but (in keeping with my character as a natural worrier) I am now questioning our choice. I know it's popular as a middle name at the moment but that doesn't really bother me as middle names aren't often used. But is it a bit boring / twee?

Also - any suggestions for middle names? I'm keen for something from either mine or DH's family, so options are:

Elizabeth (my favourite)
Betty
June
Barbara
Mary
Anne/Anna/Annie
Sylvia
Violet (too many flowers!)
Mina
Miriam
Pamela
Jane
Probably others if I dug around a bit more.

Rose Elizabeth is lovely

Bobismyfriend · 23/09/2019 09:48

I think Rose is lovely. With Elizabeth for middle name. The other choices of middle names dont seem to go very well in my opinion. I also like June but as a first name.

UserPop · 23/09/2019 09:49

Rose Elizabeth stands out to me from those names.

I loved Rosalie while pregnant and probably would have used the NN Rose.

AverageMummy · 23/09/2019 09:50

Rose is beautiful & was on my list until I found out I was having a boy

Mrsjayy · 23/09/2019 09:53

Rose Elizabeth is lovely I would go with that.

NoSauce · 23/09/2019 10:09

I dislike Rose as a middle name as it’s so unimaginative but love it as a first name. It’s very feminine and pretty.

Elizabeth goes nice with it.

Cocoismydog · 23/09/2019 10:11

Rose is a gorgeous first name. Only know one toddler with the name and she is Rosie.

I know one adult Rose and she is a sophisticated academic.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 23/09/2019 10:25

Anne/Mary just sounds like one name... Rosemary/Roseanne
I like Rose Elizabeth or Rose Betty

Bluntness100 · 23/09/2019 10:27

Rose is lovely and by far the best from your list.

OlgaPolga45 · 23/09/2019 12:29

Personally, I think you need a middle name starting with a vowel after Rose. With a consonant it's just a bit stop-starty.

I love Rose Elizabeth.

I do also quite like Rose Miriam though.

MissHenty · 23/09/2019 13:46

Rose Elizabeth

Perfect name

Astronica · 23/09/2019 13:47

Rose is great as a first name. Miriam and Elizabeth are my favourites from your list for the middle. Both sound lovely. Barbara and Pamela would both work well too, but I like Miriam or Elizabeth more. Violet is too many flowers.

Pinkyyy · 23/09/2019 13:51

Have you considered Roseanna? I've always loved that name.

Lilena94 · 23/09/2019 14:29

I love the name Mary
Why not go for Rosemary or Mary-Rose?

foxtiger · 23/09/2019 17:00

I like Rose much better as a first name than a middle name, and my favourites from your list are Rose Elizabeth and Rose Mary. I don't think I like Rose with another one syllable name.

Many thanks for all these replies! We had such a job agreeing on name for DS that it's quite exciting to think we might have found a name for DD well before she arrives!

I think Rose Elizabeth is still my favourite but I agree with a PP that Rose Miriam could work too. That said I have a close relative with a Rose / Mary type combination of names so maybe it's just a bit too similar.

None of the other names really jump out at me either but they're all names of beloved grandparents / great aunties / relatives from previous generations so are all meaningful to us.

Perhaps Rose Elizabeth is it! Thanks all for your help.

Rose Elizabeth is lovely.
Rose is overpopular as a mn. Like Ann and Louise, it is much nicer as a first name, and is a bit run-of-the-mill as a middle name.

DramaAlpaca · 23/09/2019 20:21

Rose Elizabeth is perfect, and I agree that Rose, Anne/Ann & Louise are much nicer as first names than middle names. Rose is just lovely.

123Dancewithme · 23/09/2019 20:38

Rose Alexandra
Rose Jennifer
Rose Rebecca
Rose Eleanor
Rose Helena
Rose Catherine
Rose Victoria

PrincessLouis · 23/09/2019 21:51

Rose is my favourite girls name. The name Rose stands for beauty and strength “the rose of my heart” A classic, English name “an English rose” with nature, happy “rosy” connotations, the flower its named after stands for romance and purity and the flower blooms and blossoms as does its name which means to rise like jesus ROSE on the cross, the sun ROSE on the beach, I ROSE up to become the person I was meant to be, my baby rose up to me, my rose. In titanic, the lead female Rose is a strong, opinionated, driven young woman who transforms into the passionate, creative, free spirit she always was inside, therefore deserving the name of rose. Rose is a gorgeous, beautiful name that suits a spirited child.
