Is this really horrendous?

Lennon, nn Lennie for baby girl. I read a book a while back and there was a girl in there called Lennon and it’s stuck with me since.
I think Lennie is a cute and pretty nn too. I typically like slightly more unisex names.
OH likes it too. I was pretty much decided on it but decided last night to do a which MN search on the name just to see the general opinion / check for any issues in it etc. Bad idea. The pinnacle was a recent thread on Lennyn... didn’t go well.

So is Lennon / Lennie that bad? It would be Lennon Rose probably.

I don't really like it at all but I wouldn't call it horrendous.

Are you big Beatles fans?

Topseyt · 21/09/2019 13:18

I'm personally not keen. I would also tend to think of it as definitely a boy's name.

That is just my opinion. It isn't the worst I have ever heard though.

RanchoRelaxo · 21/09/2019 13:18

I think it's lovely!

CassianAndor · 21/09/2019 13:20

Sound wise I don’t mind it and Lennie is fun, but John Lennon was a pretty unpleasant character so I don’t think I’d like to appear to name my daughter after him.

itbemay1 · 21/09/2019 13:22

It's beautiful!

Marcipex · 21/09/2019 13:23

My brain said Lemon. So not keen.

Lennie is sweet though. Could it be short for anything else.

Leonie, Elinor, Helen.

BikeRunSki · 21/09/2019 13:24

I know an11 year old who is just Leni. I rather like it. I see Lennon as a surname/male name.

Cohle · 21/09/2019 13:25

Awful.

I'd assume it was after John, who wasn't a nice character. And Lenny isn't unisex so much as a boy's name. Your DD will have to spend her whole life explaining your "interesting" choice.

ElspethFlashman · 21/09/2019 13:25

I wouldnt name a girl after a bloke who used to slap his girlfriends around tbh.

And Lennie remind me of Lenny Henry.

Hydrogenbeatsoxygen · 21/09/2019 13:26

Dreadful

Leakinglikeacolander · 21/09/2019 13:26

Love Lennie, not a John Lennon fan though so Lennon is a non starter for me.

bridgetreilly · 21/09/2019 13:27

I dont't like it at all. In general, I don't love surnames as first names, but especially in this case where it is so strongly associated with one person.

Helen nn Lennie
Eleanor nn Lennie
Magdalena nn Lennie

thatladyfromacrosstheroad · 21/09/2019 13:27

We know a Leonard nickname Lenny. I like it. Makes me think of Big Bang theory which I enjoy !

CarrieErbag · 21/09/2019 13:29

My dd has an unusual unisex name and has never spent any part of her life explaining our 'interesting ' choice.

MarianaMoatedGrange · 21/09/2019 13:57

Liam Gallagher and Patsy Kensit have a 19 year old son named Lennon.

CocoLoco87 · 21/09/2019 13:59

Prefer Lennox to Lennon but Leni/Lennie are nice nicknames

ChrisPrattsFace · 21/09/2019 14:01

I like it. But I have also just named my son something old style that I know many people wouldn’t like. I’ve never met another person with the name or even heard of one.
If you like it, go with it. I’m pleased we have!

boymum9 · 21/09/2019 14:04

I have a friend who's baby's nick name is Leni, it's really sweet and definitely suits her, I think it's cute

ChrisPrattsFace · 21/09/2019 14:04

And out of interest I just did a MN search on my sons name and holy mother of Lord it is HATED.
Still don’t care though...

HeadintheiClouds · 21/09/2019 14:07

It’s absolutely dreadful. Btw, if you have to ask “is this horrendous?” doesn’t that signal anything to you?

ISmellBabies · 21/09/2019 14:07

To me it's very much a boy name, not unisex. But I suppose if enough people use it for girls it will become unisex. I wouldn't though, personally.

SpringFan · 21/09/2019 14:08

Its a surname in my book- boys name at a push. There were some good suggestions for alternative names, with Leni as a nickname above.

RickOShay · 21/09/2019 14:09

Ds plays rugby with a Lennon.
What about Leonie? Could also have Lennie as a nn.

Atlasta · 21/09/2019 14:10

Not keen on Lennon. I do like Lennie as a nn though. I'd be looking for other names I could use nn Lennie. Eleanora?

GeorgiaGirl52 · 21/09/2019 14:10

You want Lennie as a nickname.
Try: Lynette
Lynda
Lysandra
