What do you think of the name Isaac?

Any other ideas for classic boys names? We have a short surname so need something that won't naturally get shortened to one syllable, so Daniel, William, etc don't work even though we like those names.

I love it but I am biased as I have one.

Weirdly we shorten it to Eyes but luckily no one else does.

We do get some very imaginative spellings of it but I don't think you can stop that with any name.

Pippilangstrumpfi · 18/09/2019 11:29

Sorry but I can't get 'I suck' out of my head after it was pointed out on here once...

Pippilangstrumpfi · 18/09/2019 11:30

How about
Felix
Quentin
Rowan
Marcus
Rufus

daisypond · 18/09/2019 11:36

Isaac gets shortened to Zac in my experience.
Marcus
Henry
Quentin
Felix
Jasper
Oscar

myloveforfrazzles · 18/09/2019 11:37

I love Isaac! I know an Isaac shortened to Ike

Starheart · 18/09/2019 11:37

Love the name , classic and a name that will grow with them .

Sunflowersy · 18/09/2019 11:50

It could easily be teased (I suck) as well as shortened (which you're trying to avoid).

I like the suggestions of Felix and Quentin or how about Rowan?

MissHenty · 18/09/2019 12:00

Classic boys names

Peter
Christopher
George
Ellis
Luke
Alex
Arthur
Wilfred

I do like it but I wouldn’t say names like Rowan are classic. It’s a bit of a FAD name - it’s never been in the top 100 before now and is massively increasing in popularity year on year. Could well get into the top 10 then disappear and be this generation’s Nigel or Keith

Plus it’s so similar to the names RoMan which has become so popular in the last 2 years. It’s now top 50 and on current growth trajectory will be top 10 in next couple of years. I’d say RoMan will also be a fad name and will also disappear and date very quickly.

MissHenty · 18/09/2019 12:01

Ps. I love the name Isaac by the way and think you should stick with it

caffeinebuzz · 18/09/2019 15:15

Thanks everyone, good to see a decent amount of love for Isaac!

I also like the suggestions of Henry, Jasper, George and Arthur so will share with DH and play them over in my mind during next few days to see if any sway our thinking.

Don’t like it at all - I know one who goes by Zac but I much prefer Zachary

bridgetreilly · 19/09/2019 08:51

I really like Isaac. You could also consider Felix.

ParanoidGynodroid · 19/09/2019 17:45

Isaac really doesn’t sound like “I suck”

I think it’s a great name, always liked it.

Cookit · 19/09/2019 18:22

I think it’s a lovely name.

PurpleViolin · 19/09/2019 18:25

Love it

Strictly1 · 19/09/2019 18:27

Love it but I do have one!

finallychangedmyusername · 19/09/2019 18:42

It's a great name! (Biased though, as DS1 is one!)

Be warned though, LOTS of people can't spell it. Including teachers. Confused We get a lot of "Issac" (which actually pains me to write). And, once, "Izzaakk". The mind boggles...

DS1 loves his name too, and I do find I get a lot of compliments from people on his name (mostly the older generation it seems).

caffeinebuzz · 19/09/2019 18:52

Thanks everyone. DH didn't like Henry or George as we personally know quite a few toddlers and young kids with those names. So, Isaac is still the favorite, with Arthur as a potential backup.

@MissHenty still a few months to go, so plenty of time to mull over options which is nice!

@caffeinebuzz ah lovely. I know it won’t be a priority 🤣 but after baby is born could you come back to this thread and update us? I love hearing what ppl chose (but we hardly ever get told on Mumsnet)

youarenotkiddingme · 19/09/2019 20:04

I love it!

I also like Caleb, Noah and Joshua which I think are quite similar type names.

I'd probably add one of those as a middle name.

Issac Noah is my favourite.
