What do you think? I’ve always loved it and hubby seems to be on board for forthcoming DD.... but now I’m having a wobble (a self-confessed over thinker, so would have happened with any name!). Is it a bit marmite? Frumpy? old-fashioned? Or (my thoughts on a good day) feminine, elegant and not over-used or faddy?!

FWIW I know it would get shortened. Actively want a name that can be - I like having flexibility with my sons’ names and I like all possible nns for Genevieve (prefer Evie/ Vievie/ Viva but don’t hate other variants)

I don’t need new suggestions, but views on other names on shortlist also welcome:
Grace (have always loved but know it’s a bit boring)
Isabel (pretty but probably too popular)
Imogen (love Immy but find Imogen a bit clunky to say)
Calista (like but may be too unusual for us)
Stella (like this but lack of nn is an issue for me)

Oh, and we would pronounce it the ‘British’ way (Jen-eh-veev)

I like it - but as you say it will get shortened - I would guess at Jenny.

MikeUniformMike · 16/09/2019 11:11

Not keen. I knew one as a child and it seemed a bit of a cumbersome and frumpy name,
It seems popular on here, possibly because Eve-type names are do popular.
Probably will shorten to Gen. Not keen on VieVie or Viva.

Grace - ok but
Isabel - too popular
Imogen - dislike Immy
Calista - lovely
Stella - nn not a problem. Stel.

LuluBellaBlue · 16/09/2019 11:14

Love it - one of my best friends names and she’s 39.
Definitely don’t think it’s old fashioned or frumpy!
We sometimes call her Gen but mostly it’s genevieve

Ohflippineck · 16/09/2019 11:19

Lovely name.

OneMoreForExtra · 16/09/2019 11:23

Love it - couldn't get it past DH or I'd have had it!

ClaraThePigeon · 16/09/2019 11:35

Love it.

funmummy48 · 16/09/2019 11:39

I think it’s a beautiful name. I only know one and it’s shortened to Ginny.

Atlasta · 16/09/2019 11:39

Love it. It's beautiful.
I like nn Eve. Dislike Evie-too common.
Also love Grace and Stella.

MissHenty · 16/09/2019 11:41

As someone who loves more unusual names, I still really don’t like it sorry. I agree with all the concerns about it you listed about the name. I wouldn’t like it if it were my name

Love all the alternatives you’ve listed Grace, imogen and Stella are gorgeous names

Grufallosfriends · 16/09/2019 11:48

I much prefer the French pronunciation of Geneviève.

I love Callista!

Butterfly005 · 16/09/2019 11:51

I love it - and it can always be shortened to Jenny which is a very nice well-known nickname.

Snog · 16/09/2019 11:55

I know 2 of them
One is 50 and dislikes the name, goes by Genny
The other is 20 and actually changed her name legally to this, likes to be called V or Vive but not Gen or Genny
I also know a teenage Geneva who goes by Neevie. I really like the name Geneva.

FawnDrench · 16/09/2019 12:00

It's a real beautiful name - one of my favourites

glitterbiscuits · 16/09/2019 12:06

Oh, I like it. I knew one at Uni. Can't remember her personality but I do remember her name, which I think is a good thing.

AverageMummy · 16/09/2019 12:09

Never heard of Callisto
I like Stella, Imogen & Isabel - mostly Stella

I like Genevieve even though I wouldn’t choose it myself as I am drawn to short simple names - but I still think it’s nice

xennalisa · 16/09/2019 12:21

Majority of mn loves it but I think it’s frumpy. Not for me.
I like Stella and Calista x

GreatBigNoise · 16/09/2019 12:22

I love it. I like Gen as a nickname.
I also like the English way of saying it. I think it's pretty.

Loads of choices for NNs too.

QuantamBaby · 16/09/2019 12:51

Love it! DD2 would have been called Genevieve if I could have persuaded DH...

BigusBumus · 16/09/2019 13:05

I love Genevieve - there was one at our village primary who was absolutely beautiful so i think of pretty girls with this name....

I'm sorry but all your other names are DULL DULL DULL.

Please go for Genevieve.

Gonegrey31 · 16/09/2019 13:07

I know a Genevieve, now in her thirties. Her name has never been shortened. I think it is a beautiful and unusual name.

IrishMamaMia · 16/09/2019 13:10

I think it's lovely, really elegant.

Rachelover60 · 16/09/2019 13:16

I think Genevieve is a lovely name, particularly like it pronounced the French way but the 'English' way is nice too. Quite unusual. There was a famous car called Genevieve but I'll leave you to look that up :-).

The other names you mention are good though not keen on Calista. I would prefer Esttelle, shortened to Stella but up to you of course. I'm sure your girl will be a star whatever you choose.

Genevieve my favourite though. As Irishmamamia said - elegant.

SallyWD · 16/09/2019 13:21

Beautiful, classic name

user1493494961 · 16/09/2019 13:31

Pretty name, not keen on Gen. Love Imogen as well, nn Immy.
