We are having a baby boy, but these would have been the choices for a girl. Opinions?

Willa
Ada
Ophelia
Vivian

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Willa - reminds me of villi in the intestines
Ada - ok
Ophelia - boobies
Vivian - off the Young Ones.

It's good that you're having a boy.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/09/2019 14:51

I quite like Willa and Vivian, but I much prefer Vivienne.
Ada is very harsh
Ophelia is awful

pinkribbons · 15/09/2019 14:56

@user1493494961 wow rude much ShockI love Willa it's beautiful

AverageMummy · 15/09/2019 18:43

@user1493494961 that made me laugh out loud - can always rely on mumsnet

Ada and Willa are both lovely

NoSauce · 15/09/2019 18:52

Ophelia is pretty. The others are terrible.

MikeUniformMike · 15/09/2019 19:03

Willa - not keen
Ada - ugly name
Ophelia - no
Vivian - boy's name. Vivien is the girl version

OhTheRoses · 15/09/2019 19:07

Ophelia is rather tragic.
Vivian is the male version
Ada has a stick and a hairnet
Willa - is it a name?

Hopefully your boy will be called something like John.

IckleBear · 15/09/2019 20:38

I don't like any of them.

DramaAlpaca · 15/09/2019 21:00

Vivien is nice. spelled that way as that's the female version.

yikesanotherbooboo · 15/09/2019 22:09

I rather like Willa ( Cather) but don't think I would brave it.
Not keen on Ada despite Lovelace connection although it is quite of the moment.
I would choose a different Shakespearian 'heroine ' I think although Ophelia is a romantic sounding name.
Vivien is my preferred spelling of this name ; quite like .

BackforGood · 15/09/2019 22:27

I'm with @user1493494961

If using Vivienne, I would spell it the girls way.

MissHenty · 15/09/2019 22:44

@yikesanotherbooboo just out of interest why do you think you have to be brave for the name Willa

@Crimsonpetalandthewhite op I love your names list especially Willa and Ada

What did you name DS?

IsobelRae23 · 16/09/2019 01:54

All horrible sadly. There are so many pretty, nice names out there. There’s are dire in my opinion.

Icantthinkofanynewnames · 16/09/2019 04:23

Love them all! So surprised by some of the responses - thought they were all well known and lovely names! I prefer Vivian spelt like Vivienne though.

Icantthinkofanynewnames · 16/09/2019 04:25

Don’t worry OP - some Mumsnetters won’t give their stamp of approval to anything other than Sarah, Elizabeth or Catherine 😂

mathanxiety · 16/09/2019 05:41

Love Ada and Willa.

They are among the lovelier names in the granny chic genre imo.

yikesanotherbooboo · 16/09/2019 09:54

MissHenty, I suppose because children generally like to be 'part of the crowd' and most wouldn't want to keep explaining Willa eg is a girl's name , is not a willy etc. I do like it though.

daisypond · 16/09/2019 10:19

Vivien is great and classy.Much better than Vivienne.
Willa I like. Mainly because of Willa Cather. But is it short for something? Wilhelmina?
Ada is too bland and boring.
Ophelia I think is downmarket, because it smacks of ignorance of the Shakespeare story.

MikeUniformMike · 16/09/2019 11:18

I much prefer Vivien to Vivienne.
