Need a girl's name

Pregnant with daughter no. 2, had my heart set on Phoebe, partner agreed, started referring to baby as that until . . . a quite close friend had a baby called Phoebe! We see them all the time so Phoebe is out! Already have an Ivy, I like old fashioned names like Pearl, Sylvia, Iris but partner likes 'boring' older names like Elizabeth and Catherine. Also like modern names and other nature names. I want something short, easy to spell, hard to nickname and pretty but not too cutesy. Please help, I am absolutely gutted to miss out on our favourite name so far.

Juliet
Cecilia
Jemima

Also maybe consider speaking to your friend - she might not mind a second Phoebe

DamnitCharlie · 15/09/2019 04:37

She has already said she doesn't mind a second Phoebe but I think it would be strange to have a baby a couple of months later and use the same name. We see each other several times a week and know all the same people but eventually they will be in different schools. I don't know - I didn't use a name last time because I worked with a girl with the same name then she left a few weeks later so you never know how long you will know people for!

I didn’t use a name for a similar reason and we never see them now.

Continue to look but if you find nothing you love as much then use Phoebe.

Mavis

Though as you want "easy to spell", perhaps you'd better go with Talia or Neve spellings!

Can't seem to tag anynoe, I haven't heard the name Cora until a few days ago, where is it from?

DandyLyon · 15/09/2019 07:20

@DamnitCharlie it's Greek, like Phoebe. Linked to the spring and to Persephone. Lovely name xx

PictureWall · 15/09/2019 07:28

I think Cora became better known because it was the name of one of the main characters in Downton Abbey.

I would go with pheobe as you love it, your friend is fine about it and, as you said, who knows what the future holds for your friendship.

Or carry on the plant theme from Ivy:
Daisy
Iris
Rose (or Rosa)
Dahlia
Marigold (nickname Goldie)
Rowan
Primrose

Oh and just thought of Alice

Old fashioned, but thanks to Alice in Wonderland, you still think of a little girl, easy to spell, people have heard of it, but I've not met a little Alice yet, so she won't be one of 4 in her class.

Go with Phoebe if your friend says she doesn't mind, especially if they will be in different schools.

IckleBear · 15/09/2019 09:01
