Fashion designer?

neverornow · 12/09/2019 20:38

Very pretty, I like it

seeyounexttime · 12/09/2019 20:40

Pronunciation would need to be explained (ah-lay-uh or ah-lee-uh?) as would the umlaut. Could be annoying but arguably you'd only need to explain it once then move on. It is a very pretty name though. Why not Aaliyah?

NannyR · 12/09/2019 20:42

Could be pronounced as A-liar, which isn't so pretty.

MrsJoshNavidi · 12/09/2019 20:56

The diaeresis would mean that it's pronounced Al-a -ee-a.

MrsJoshNavidi · 12/09/2019 20:58

Oops didn't finish -
The ï means that that letter is pronounced separately. Like Zoë or Noël.

GeoffreyAndBungle · 12/09/2019 20:58

I wouldn't know how to pronounce it.

I think she would have a lifetime of having to spell and correct her name to people.

bridgetreilly · 12/09/2019 21:22

Azzedine.

user1493494961 · 12/09/2019 21:43

Looks clumsy.

Ledehe · 12/09/2019 21:47

Would it be pronounced Al-eye-eea (trying to work out from Anaïs)

Namechangenecessity · 12/09/2019 21:48

I like it

Frith2013 · 12/09/2019 22:43

A garlicky dip ?

KatherineJaneway · 12/09/2019 22:47

Quick goggle said it was pronounced 'ah liar'. Not a fan of that. Aaliyah I like.

DulciUke · 12/09/2019 22:53

For goodness sake--she will have a lifetime of having to tell people how to spell and pronounce the name. Don't do that to her. Yeah, she'll only have to tell people once. Every single person she meets...

seeyounexttime · 13/09/2019 00:00

@DulciUke I know I didn't like to mention that part Grin

bridgetreilly · 13/09/2019 00:11

Frith, you're thinking of Aioli.

Thesearmsofmine · 13/09/2019 00:15

It reminds me of Clueless when Cher gets robbed.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 13/09/2019 00:20

Not spelt like that. It looks like an emoji and i can see it leading to years of red tape nightmare.
But Alaia is lovely.

MikeUniformMike · 13/09/2019 18:46

Azzedine
...
A Liar

CornedBeef451 · 13/09/2019 19:30

The "lifetime of spelling it" always bugs me. I have a VERY boring, common name which, unfortunately, has at least 3 spellings. This means I am cursed with a boring yet unspellable name.

This is teamed with a very unusual spelling for a very common surname, inherited from FIL as we think it was made up when he entered the country.

My son has a biblical name with only one spelling but people really go to town on it and spell it all sorts of weird and wonderful ways...including DH on occasion.

It's a lovely name, go for it if you like it!

BlueBilledBeatboxingBird · 13/09/2019 19:51

“You don’t understand! This is an Alaïa!”
“An a-what-a?”
“It’s, like, a totally important designer.”
“And I will totally shoot you in the head. Get down!”

Thoughtlessinengland · 13/09/2019 19:55

Just, why?
