Opinions on iris please! Can’t decide what I think about it...

I love it personally!

Elliemayclampett · 12/09/2019 19:26

Love it.

bridgetreilly · 12/09/2019 19:29

It's sweet. It is quite popular round here, but I like it.

ncqtime · 12/09/2019 19:31

Don't like it. Don't like the sounds but maybe that's just my accent. Needs a clear I at the start. Don't like ss'y names like Clarissa either.

99bb · 12/09/2019 19:31

I love it! I know my mother hates it a bit sure if that’s a generational thing

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 12/09/2019 19:35

Not keen. The 'ris' bit always sounds a bit hard on the ears to me. Prefer Ivy or Isla.

StillIRise87 · 12/09/2019 19:39

Its lovely. I know three under five

StarlightCeleste · 12/09/2019 19:40

Beautiful name!

percheron67 · 12/09/2019 19:40

Beautiful. The name of my former Headmistress, who was a great lady.

ALoadOfTwaddle · 12/09/2019 19:43

Just don't use as a middle name with a first name that could be an eye colour, e.g. Hazel. Hazel Iris just sounds silly. It literally means hazel-coloured eye.

For me personally I wouldn't use it because the eye association is much stronger in my head than the flower/colour association. No objection to it for others though.

Shopkinsdoll · 12/09/2019 19:44

Lovely name

MsSquiz · 12/09/2019 19:44

I love it, but it is a family name in my family - I have an aunt Iris and a great aunt Iris

Baldilockss · 12/09/2019 19:44

Love it!

MissRainbowBrite · 12/09/2019 19:46

It's a lovely name, my Grandma was an Iris and she was a beautiful soul.

WhyBirdStop · 12/09/2019 19:54

My grandma was an Iris too, lovely name

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/09/2019 19:56

If you loved it you’d know

Iliada · 12/09/2019 20:13

I really love this name. It is top of my list actually (for when I hopefully soon have a use for it!).

Where I live it would be pronounced Eerees, though, and I prefer that to some of our British accents that tend towards pronouncing it Oirus.

Sunshineys · 12/09/2019 20:17

I also don't like the English pronunciation Eye ris, but much prefer Eer-is (as it's pronounced in Germany for example).

Youmeandthesea · 12/09/2019 20:38

I like it, I have a friend with a little Iris and she calls her Irie for short

AverageMummy · 12/09/2019 20:55

I don’t really like it but it’s a perfectly decent name - I don’t have any particular reason

Taylen69 · 12/09/2019 21:00

Reminds me of iris in the eye....or a old lady

DitheringBlidiot · 12/09/2019 21:06

It's lovely

DramaAlpaca · 12/09/2019 21:08

It's one of the few 'granny chic' names that I like.

Frith2013 · 12/09/2019 22:47

It was on my list for DC2.

Tillygetsit · 12/09/2019 23:12

Love it.
