This name seems to have become popular lately but, people can't seem to grasp how to pronounce it...
It's AARON as in air-on (biblical).
Fools say ARRON as in A-Ron.
It's simple English!
Can't understand why they do this.
This thread is in response to a member who said that it's pronounced ARRON: were that to be the case, then AARON would be spelt ARRON!

Do you go to a bazaar or a bazair?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/09/2019 19:53

The only Aaron I know is pronounced
A-ron. It’s a nice name

Whoseagooddoggiethen · 12/09/2019 19:54

Any Aarons near me (Dublin) are pronounced Arron and theres loads over here! Recently came across an Aran.

fulltimeworkingmotherof4 · 12/09/2019 19:57

@Whoseagooddoggiethen Aran is the Welsh way to spell it, I know one

BertrandRussell · 12/09/2019 20:01

Bazaar is Persian. Aaron is Hebrew. The chances are they will be pronounced differently.

pattyhoo · 12/09/2019 20:06

The only air-Ron I have ever met is an obnoxious religious a-hole who thinks it's acceptable to impose his religious beliefs on anyone around him. The Ar-rons I've met have all been decent on the other hand 🧐

Sakura7 · 12/09/2019 20:07

I've known lots of Aarons and the vast majority pronounced it Aron. I only knew one who pronounced it Airon, and I think it sounds a bit pretentious tbh.

As a PP said, you don't get to decide how people pronounce their name.

PuffHuffle5 · 12/09/2019 20:09

‘Air-on’ is how Americans say it. In the UK it’s ‘A-ron’. Millions of people (literally everyone) saying it that way aren’t ‘wrong’. And what’s ‘simple English’? It’s a very complex language with a vast amount of spelling variations Hmm

Bapman · 12/09/2019 20:13

DH’s middle name is Aaron and he pronounces it Arun. That’s how he pronounces his name and how many others do, it isn’t wrong

reginafelangee · 12/09/2019 20:17

I'm Scottish so know loads of Aarons and Arrans and all pronounce the Scottish way which is ah-run

Never heard of air-ron. Weird.

TitilatedOcelot · 12/09/2019 20:20

How do we know Moses wore a wig?
Because sometimes he came down the mountain with Aaron and sometimes he didn't.

Therefore it's got to be Air-un or the joke doesn't work!

Sunshineys · 12/09/2019 20:20

Aaron - Ahr on (long Ah sound)

Arron - Arr on (short Ar sound)

HalfManHalfLabrador · 12/09/2019 20:22

I’ve never heard it pronounced Airon, not even by a priest

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/09/2019 20:38

Do you say aired-vark then OP?

AverageMummy · 12/09/2019 20:50

It started as Hebrew Aharon or Egyptian as Aharw so getting yourself so wound up about it having evolved since you did RE lessons 60 years ago is somewhat ridiculous

AverageMummy · 12/09/2019 20:50

I’m amazed no one has heard the Air pronunciation though - I’ve met loads of them

AverageMummy · 12/09/2019 20:52

I’m from the South East though so I wonder if that’s relevant as possibly there used to be less influence of the Scottish / Welsh versions of similar names

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 12/09/2019 20:55

I grew up in a heavily Jewish area of NY and only ever heard "Arran" until I moved to the UK. As in, people who were familiar with some form of Hebrew.

I pronounce it Air-un now but don't think it is that black and white tbh.

BakewellGin1 · 12/09/2019 21:08

My Aaron is definately pronounced Aaron with the beginning same as Aardvark Grin

Loved it from when we lived in Scotland so DS1 was named it.

Who says you decide we are wrong anyway... people clearly have the opinion you are too... anyway dont know why you'd care so much

howells · 12/09/2019 21:10

I am genuinely confused here! I had never heard Aaron pronounced any other way apart from “Airun” until the last few years. Maybe it’s a regional thing? (I am not now living in the area where I grew up). Wikipedia does say it is pronounced “airun” btw.

BertrandRussell · 12/09/2019 21:13

Maybe it s an age thing?

criticaldarling · 12/09/2019 21:14

Married to an Aaron and spend my whole life saying 'it's Aaron not Aron'

bookwormsforever · 12/09/2019 21:15

simplify things by using Arran. Sounds as it’s spelled!

Have never heard Aaron pronounced as Airon either.

burnttoastandjam · 12/09/2019 21:17

One of my DS has Aaron as his middle name, after my grandfather, and we pronounce it Air-on. (As we did my grandfather)

Howtotrainyourhamster · 12/09/2019 21:18

I have an Aaron.

It is definitely pronounced Air-on, that is the correct biblical pronounciation. It is a genre name one of the oldest names in the bible, I can’t believe someone just posted it was Irish. I can’t stand the Arran pronounciation, anyone wanting to pronounce it like that should spell it like the island!!

How do we know that Moses was bald?
Because he was sometimes seen with Aaron and sometimes not.
(I rest my case!)
