2 middle names

What are people’s thoughts?

My brother and DH both have 2, I always imagined given my child 2, but is it perceived some type of way? (Ie is it considered chavvy?)

I guess it could be considered unnecessary but my reason for 2 middles names is to honour a member from each side of the family. Ie for a son, my DF and DH’s DF names as middle names)

Just go for it. I don’t really think anyone cares how many middle names your child has, so long as it’s not 7 or something silly. And it’s def not ‘chavvy’ - hate that word.
My brother is Patrick David John for the record x

I always thought it was more posh tbh. We have two middle names for our DD and plan to do the same again for next one. I've never come across it ever being seen as chavvy.

My son has 2 middle names, one honouring each side of the family. It’s not chavvy as long as you’re not hyphenating them.

DC1 only has 1 middle name, but quite a long first name which flows quite nicely with her middle name and our short, sharp surname.
DC2 has 2 middle names, as it flows better with his short first name and our short surname!!
The name we’ve chosen for DC3 is another short one, which sounds better with 2 middle names!

I figure you just go with what sounds “right” Smile

Our DC have two middle names, mainly because we had lots of names we liked and used it as an opportunity to put something more 'out there' in. The second middle names are generally used on official things only, so it's not like they often have to repeat four names. I'd go for it!

DD has two. I think it flows better. Cant believe more than one middle name is considered chavvy. The poor Royal Family!

As an aside I didnt have a middle name until I married and inserted one so I didnt have the same initials as my delightful MIL

My children all have two middle name.Chavvy?!Why?

Whoops75 · 12/09/2019 13:18

Ds has 3
Dd has none

Do what you want OP

AverageMummy · 12/09/2019 13:20

I think it’s quite a posho habit if anything but I doubt anyone would think twice about it

My daughter has 2 middle names but for a different reason - she loves it

Amys136 · 12/09/2019 13:26

My daughter has 2. The only person that said anything was my nan. But then none of her 4 have any middle names

ReadytoPop6 · 12/09/2019 13:30

Thanks. I don’t think it’s chavvy, I was just asking if some people thought it was. Or if they thought anything else about it!

Ds has both his Grandad's names as middle names. Can't see why it would be chavvy.

Daddylonglegs1965 · 12/09/2019 13:36

Our two both have two middle names. Background I didn’t have a middle name as a child and always wanted one.
We took ages to get pregnant with DS and I thought we would only have one child. I always wanted to give a boy my dads name as a middle name as he wouldn’t share my family name but when he arrived I also wanted to give him my husbands name as a middle name so we went for it. When we had DD I didn’t want her to feel left out so she also has her own name, a family name from DH’s mums side and my name. I don’t regret giving either two middle names.

wineymummy · 12/09/2019 13:36

DD has 2. First name: one we both liked, no family connection. Then one middle name for each side of the family. (mainly because I wanted one for my side, but DH wanted his first name choice which I had vetoed, which happened to be a family name.)

sorrythisusernameisinuse · 12/09/2019 18:03

I think it's more posh than anything. We're having 2 middle names as ones after DH fam and one after mine. He's from a very posh family tho

Frith2013 · 12/09/2019 23:00

My brother has 2, 1 from each side of the family. I doubt anyone knows outside of the family; no one is interested in middle names.

wattytanker · 12/09/2019 23:03

DD has two middle names because she's the only one and will remain so and we gave her her GM's names as middle names.

Never had it down as gauche Grin. It was purely sentimental for us.

Bloody autocorrect and fat fingers.
