For a girl I assume? I've never heard this name, have you made it up? I actually quite like it. Also I often see ppl post on here saying they want a unique name and then listing names that are merely rare, this in my world at least would be genuinely unique!!

bluebell34567 · 10/09/2019 16:39

i am not sure your child will be happy with this name.

Peony99 · 10/09/2019 16:40

It sounds like someone saying Alaska with a South African accent.

Wouldn't be my first choice, sorry...

TheVanguardSix · 10/09/2019 16:40

Do you mean Eliska, the Czech/Slovak diminutive for Elise?
Eleska sounds like Alaska.
Eliska is very sweet, but I would assume you were of Czech/Slovak origin.

AuntieStella · 10/09/2019 16:45

I've not come across this name before, and don't really take to it.

Is it a dinimutive of an Eastern European name? In which case, go for it and honour your heritage.

But my first thought was that it was a bit reminiscent of Electra, and somehow not quite right.

Reallybadidea · 10/09/2019 16:59

Sounds like Alexa.

Morado · 10/09/2019 17:07

I love it.. Almost named my daughter this but my OH wouldn't allow it as it sounded too much like Alaska. It's never been listed on the ONS so it's nice and rare 😁

Sagradafamiliar · 10/09/2019 17:17

It sounds like Vanessa Feltz' DD's names combined

AverageMummy · 10/09/2019 18:17

Is it a real name? They’ll spend their life with people thinking they’re called Alexa or Alaska

mumof2xo · 10/09/2019 18:32

I actually quite like it. The closest name I know to it is Aneska

lilypips · 10/09/2019 18:42

You know when people say AKS instead of ASK?

Sounds like saying EleSKA instead of AleXA

Sorry.

L0bstersLass · 10/09/2019 18:49

It's all been said already. You will not be thanked for this name.

NameChange84 · 10/09/2019 18:53

I’m really sorry but I don’t like it. Difficult to figure out at first glance. Looks like a misspelling of Alexa.

ViserionTheDragon · 10/09/2019 18:55

Yep, sounds like Alaska.

MrsJoshNavidi · 10/09/2019 18:56

Are you forrin? If so, go for it.
If not avoid, avoid, avoid.

Icantthinkofanynewnames · 10/09/2019 18:56

It DOES sound like a South African saying 'Alaska'! Also it does sound made up. Also what if people use 'Les' as a nickname - probably one of the worst nicknames of all time!

RubbingHimSourly · 10/09/2019 18:57

I know an Electra.......she does carry the name well tho (( globe trotting fashion designer ))

user1493494961 · 10/09/2019 19:04

Dreadful, although she would probably end up as Ellie.

Tillygetsit · 10/09/2019 22:59

I know a husky called this so I like it!

abiirthdaycake · 11/09/2019 00:25

"elska" is Icelandic for "love" and älska (pronounced the same) is the Swedish. It's a sweet name for a pet I think but not a baby. I'd just think of it whenever I saw Eleska

Morado · 11/09/2019 11:22

The negative comments only make me love this name more 😂

forkfun · 11/09/2019 11:24

Sounds like a medical device.

OtraCosaMariposa · 11/09/2019 12:35

Alaska? Alexa? Electra? A mash up of Eleanor and Erika?

It's not a great choice.

SoupDragon · 11/09/2019 12:37

It sounds like someone saying Alaska with a South African accent.

Or possibly in a very post accent like the Queen.

I don't dislike it as such but "Alaska" would put me off it.

joystir59 · 11/09/2019 12:43

Eleska sounds made up and I cannot find it listed, and don't like it. But I do like Eliska- Meanings and history of the name Eliska: | Edit
Eliška is a Czech diminutive of Alžběta (Elizabeth). Elizabeth is from Ελισαβετ (Elisabet), the Greek form of the Hebrew name אֱלִישֶׁבַע (Elisheva) meaning; "God's promise," "oath of God," or "I am God’s daughter."
