What are your thoughts? Other DC’s have quite old fashioned but not mega unusual type names, and I like Lenny and Leo as shortenings, but I’ve never come across a baby Leonard before and not sure how it will be viewed!

It's OK, I prefer Leo. Would he be called Leonard in full that much, or are you more likely to call him by the shortening you decide on? If you decide on Lenny, it might get shortened to Len when he's older if you're OK with that. I think people are used to old fashioned names now, so I don't think it would stand out as unusual.

Marcipex · 31/08/2019 19:46

I like it.

SleeplessinEastSussex · 31/08/2019 19:50

Love it! Especially Lennie as a nn

MyNewBearTotoro · 31/08/2019 19:53

I like it. I do know a little boy called Leonard on his birth certificate but he’s always been known as Leo. I think it’s a good string name so if you like it go for it.

Bouffalant · 31/08/2019 19:58

Love it, especially Lenny.

Disfordarkchocolate · 31/08/2019 19:59

I much prefer Leon but most days I think I'm the only one on MN that does. I like Leonard too, geeky vibe since The Big Bang Theory.

lorinska · 31/08/2019 20:02

Just call him Leo!

june2007 · 31/08/2019 20:02

Big bang fan by any chance?

LadyGAgain · 31/08/2019 20:04

Go for Leonardo. Leo is lovely.

AverageMummy · 31/08/2019 20:05

I know a little Leonard / Lenny & I think it’s really sweet

joystir59 · 31/08/2019 20:06

Leonard is just awful

GlacindaTheTroll · 31/08/2019 20:07

Many people will think of the character in The Big Bang Theory. Not sure how long the association will last, but it had a huge fan base for the 12 series it ran to

(Quite a few TBBT user names on MN!)

maryannay · 31/08/2019 20:32

I like Leonard!

Leonardo feels very Italian.

FenellaMaxwell · 31/08/2019 20:36

It was the joke name we used for our baby in utero because we deemed it so bad nobody would call their baby that in reality Blush

MileyWiley · 31/08/2019 20:41

Leon; Leo; Lennie; even Leonardo at a push are all much nicer.

Newearringsplease · 31/08/2019 20:42

Even Leonard in The Big Bang Theory hates his name

PotatoCity · 31/08/2019 20:45

It’s the Big Bang Theory thing that makes me unsure really! I do like it but not a super fan and don’t want it to be assumed that it’s after him!

I’m not sure if we’d use it in full or a shortening, but I’m happy with Len, Lenny or Leo so not choosing it for a particular non....

Quite like Leonard. A friend has a Lennon which I really love - gets shortened to Len.

MyNewBearTotoro · 31/08/2019 20:54

I wouldn’t worry about the Big Bang theory - I’ve never watched it and didn’t realise here was a character with this name. I don’t think anybody is going to assume that you’ve named him after the show anymore than you’d think a baby called Phoebe was named after the character in Friends. The show will most likely be forgotten in a few years anyway so I wouldn’t think most people would go to that.

Bouffalant · 31/08/2019 20:57

I didn't think of BBT, but I thought of Lenny Delaney from TFTM's Big Galaxy. Any other post cast listeners?

OhTheRoses · 31/08/2019 21:02

Len Fairclough
Leonard Rossiter
Leonard Cohen
Lenny Henry

Can't make a positive connection there OP. Sorry. Other options could be Kenneth, Maxwell, Reginald, Malcolm?

MrsGilly1 · 31/08/2019 22:39

Prefer Leo
