Evangeline

Do you think it’s too frilly with Violet? (DD1’s name) Beatrice, Beatrix and Florence are also on our list but I’m not sure on the latter after realising how popular it is.

Any middle name suggestions? We’d want something short as DD1 has 2 middles and we’re probably doing the same for this LO.

All we’ve come up with is Evangeline Orla Fleur. Orla, Cait or Niamh would be what we use as a second middle (family names)

Thanks!

It's a nice name, but Evie is quite dull from overuse imo.

bamacuppa · 29/08/2019 14:30

It’s really lovely, and angelic.

SecretWitch · 29/08/2019 14:32

I think it’s a gorgeous name💕

Peachbubble · 29/08/2019 18:01

It's lovely, but would you be happy with it being shortened to Evie by some?

Jessi88 · 29/08/2019 18:18

I really like Evie, as overdone as it is, so I’d not have a problem with that nickname. I like that she’d have a few options to go choose from however as I worry that it’s too much of a big name for a LO to carry.

No I much prefer when siblings have fairly different sounding names so they can have their own distinct identities

MrsDimmond · 29/08/2019 18:43

It is a bit of a 'statement' name in a way that Violet isn't.
Personally it's too fancy for me - sounds like the name an author might choose for a girl in a well-to-do Victorian school for young ladies ...

tryingtobebetterallthetime · 29/08/2019 18:50

I knew an Eveline. I think it is a lovely name and less formal than Evangeline, which brings to mind evangelical Christians for me.

Elmo303 · 29/08/2019 21:01

I like Evangeline but with Violet it’s all a bit of a mouthful. I think it’s because of the ‘V’ sound in both. Do you by any chance like Emmeline? I think it’s softer with Violet but still a similar sound, plus it doesn’t have the religious connotations (can’t remember if that bothered you or not) and it’s obviously a famous suffragette name which is lovely too Smile

Elmo303 · 29/08/2019 21:04

Forgot to say nicknames could be more varied (and less popular too). Em, Emme, Lina, Lenie etc

IggyAce · 29/08/2019 21:07

I love Evangeline it’s my dd middle name, we were down to two names and decided on the order once we met her.

cardamoncoffee · 29/08/2019 21:42

I love Evangeline for it's meaning. I would give Eva as a nn.

itbemay1 · 29/08/2019 23:29

My favourite name. Love it OP

AuntieStella · 29/08/2019 23:34

It's not frilly to me, more muscular Christian.

The meaning is obvious, and think it's v popular in fundamentalist, proselytising families

Jessi88 · 29/08/2019 23:50

We’re not at all religious so maybe it’s not the name for us.

EmmiJay · 29/08/2019 23:53

I'm not very religious (although I do throw up a quick prayer every now and again lol) but its the name I gave my DD. Its a strong but whimsical name. Loved it as soon as I heard it.

KronksSpinachPuffs · 29/08/2019 23:57

I really like it! Love Evangeline Orla Fleur.

Lina could be a nn as well as evie. Smile

Jessi88 · 29/08/2019 23:58

Lol, well I am praying for this baby to get out of me ASAP. I’m so done with being pregnant now!

Oh bless you! Lol I hope the birth goes well and happy name picking Flowers

AverageMummy · 30/08/2019 00:10

Love the suggestion of Emmeline even more - beautiful and less ‘frilly’

IsobelRae23 · 30/08/2019 00:58

I think of church, loud singing and lots of happy people clapping. I would think you were religious.

notangelinajolie · 30/08/2019 01:07

Evangeline is the best name ever. I love it. And Evie 🙂

Moveoverplease · 30/08/2019 01:30

I really like it

Jessi88 · 02/09/2019 21:32

She’s finally here and she’s definitely not an Evangeline lol. We have decided she’s either a Mabel, an Edith or an Esme/Esmée.

OP posts:
violetteskies · 02/09/2019 22:25

Go for Mabel or Esme!
