Boys names! Help (again!)

I’m really struggling with boys names. As you may have seen from a previous post, my husbands favourite is too rhymey with our surname.
I love the name Felix, but worry about the cat connotations especially considering as we have cats. I don’t want people to think that I named my son after a cat!
We also like the name Rupert, what are views on these?

I like Felix. If you're bothered by Felix the cat then why not Rupert the bear?

BelfortGabbz · 28/08/2019 11:47

On the fence with Felix. I like most (x) names but the cat connection has been around for yonks and doesn't look like going away anytime soon.
Have you considered Maxim?
Sorry really dislike Rupert, now that really is about the bear.

Grufallosfriends · 28/08/2019 11:50

Love Rupert!

Grufallosfriends · 28/08/2019 11:52

Felix is not only a cat but also a well known brand of cat food 🐈

Bunnybigears · 28/08/2019 11:54

Felix is a cat and Rupert is a bear.
How about Maximus?

kenandbarbie · 28/08/2019 12:02

Hmmmm I think you need some inspiration! Any others suggestions of names you like?

saveallyourkisses · 28/08/2019 12:47

I have a Rupert (3mnths) and have had lots of compliments on his name. People are going to find a problem no matter what you choose. I also like Felix. 🙂

MrsBertBibby · 28/08/2019 12:52

Rupert is a bear, or a very posh princeling. Soz saveallyourkisses!

Robert is much nicer, and very underused.

I also love Conrad, and Torin.

CakeRattleandRoll · 28/08/2019 13:10

Love Felix.

user7886145 · 28/08/2019 13:19

See I don’t understand why some names have such strong connotations where others don’t. Why is Rupert and bear and Felix a cat when you wouldn’t say “Oh Thomas the Tank” or “Horrid Henry”. I think people will get used to whatever name you choose.

IckleBear · 28/08/2019 13:34

I like Felix

platform9andthreequarters · 28/08/2019 14:38

I love the name Rupert and its our firm boys favourite. I don't think the bear connatations are bad at all, I loved the programme. Almost every name going is the name of some character/celebrity somewhere.

hairyturkey · 28/08/2019 14:40

Love felix

daffodilrosedaisy · 28/08/2019 14:42

I love Felix and don't associate with the cat, but then I know a Felix irl so maybe that's why!

Atlasta · 28/08/2019 14:44

Felix is too feline for my liking. I don't like the sound of it either or the look of it written down.
Rupert I really dislike. Hate the sound of it and it reminds me of a little Lord Fauntleroy style little boy.

user1493494961 · 28/08/2019 14:44

Felix is OK, don't associate it with a cat. Dislike Rupert.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 28/08/2019 15:41

I really like Rupert. I’m not so keen on Felix.

Lavenderblues · 28/08/2019 15:56

Rupert is great!

Felix is very catty 🐱

CloudyVanilla · 28/08/2019 21:43

I love Felix, I named my son Felix :)

I know the cat thing but I associate it more with happy, lucky, bright feelings. It’s a lovely name _

daisypond · 28/08/2019 21:45

I love Rupert and I like Felix. Rufus?

SE13Mummy · 28/08/2019 22:55

I like both names in spite of knowing that cats like Felix, like Felix and that Rupert is a bear. I also have a friend named Rupert whose childhood nickname was Poops. Still like the name though.

Astronica · 29/08/2019 02:57

I love both Rupert and Felix, and would not be put off by either cat or bear references. Rupert is probably my favourite by a pinch, but I would happily use both these names.

FairyDust92 · 29/08/2019 03:30

I've had at least 3 people say 'I had a cat/dog with that name' my son is called Milo.
It doesn't bother me anymore as it's a human name. It's not like I called him Fluffy!
Felix is okay so is Rupert.
Do you like the name Hugo?

HamWater · 29/08/2019 04:51

I love Felix. Once people get to know your son, that's who they'll associate the name with. Felix was on my boys list, the other ones I had were Alexander, Max, Ezra, Nathaniel, Rafe.
