Hmm, I like them all. Some (Charlotte in par) are more common (as in you hear them very frequently, not 'common as muck' common) - does that matter to you?

If you like Ailsa, do you like Fiona, Iona, or Mairi?

Saorse would have a lifetime of spelling and correcting pronunciation ahead of her.

CatteStreet · 28/08/2019 06:32

Like the first four, dislike Alexis (am old enough to remember Dynasty) and Ailsa (ditto vintage Home and Away - seriously, just don't like either name). Alexandra is fabulous, though.

Clara is my stand-out favourite (pron Clahra to be international). I never used to like Harriet but it's been growing on me since I read Harriet the Spy with my dc.

RedCowboyBoots · 28/08/2019 06:55

I like Charlotte. Classic and classy and I've not actually met any yet.
I hear Clara everywhere I go these days, even though on paper it's not super popular yet. I'm betting on a big rise in it this year due to Disney's Nutcracker releasing last Christmas.
Harriet is lovely. I'd shorten to Hattie
How do you pronounce Saoirse?
Alexis is nice, I'd shorten to Lexi
How do you pronounce Ailsa?

RebeccaRae · 28/08/2019 07:09

Thanks everyone!

Saoirse is pronounced Sir-sha, and Ailsa Ale-sa. One is Irish and one is Scottish (we come from both!).

Charlotte - a classic beautiful name, but she’ll be one of many at school
Clara - ok but a little plain for my liking
Harriet - I like this but don’t like Hattie as nn, Etty or Etta might be ok
Saoirse - I love this, beautiful name but you/she will forever have issues with people incorrectly pronouncing it and spelling it
Alexis - my favourite, nn Lexi very cute
Ailsa - don’t like, it sounds too much like Elsa to me (Frozen - bleurgh!)

They are all beautiful except saorsie
Clara is the best.....but I have one so might be biased!

AverageMummy · 28/08/2019 07:55

Ailsa is really beautiful

Chitarra · 28/08/2019 07:56

Clara is my favourite. Not keen on Alexis.

Peachbubble · 28/08/2019 08:17

Charlotte, Clara and Harriet from your list. How about
Clementine
Tabitha
Rosalie
Allegra

Petrichor11 · 28/08/2019 08:18

I love Charlotte and Saoirse

joystir59 · 28/08/2019 08:22

All lovely names. Well done OP!

daisypond · 28/08/2019 08:55

Charlotte (Lottie) - not keen.
Clara- ok but a Victorian style name, so maybe already dated.
Harriet- dull
Saoirse -ok
Alexis - prefer Alexandra
Ailsa - my favourite. Unusual these days.

katesalwayslate · 28/08/2019 09:09

Charlotte (Lottie) is beautiful and timeless but very popular.
Clara is also beautiful and vintage but with a cooler vibe
Harriet is a nice solid name
Saoirse is a great name for a little girl - strong and with a great meaning
I don’t like Alexis and I don’t know how to say the other one!

user1493494961 · 28/08/2019 09:16

Charlotte, Clara or Harriet, don't like the others. (The potential Lexi shortening is awful)

itssquidstella · 28/08/2019 09:25

Charlotte (Lottie) - I like Lottie as a nickname but Charlotte is quite common (in the sense of widely-used), which puts me off
Clara - love it
Harriet - not to my taste but objectively a lovely name
Saoirse - fab, my favourite
Alexis - makes me think of Joan Collins in Dynasty!
Ailsa - really dislike

Allyo19 · 28/08/2019 09:34

It's a very similar list to mine. What about Felicity? Also like pp's suggestions of Matilda and Tabitha.

BertrandRussell · 28/08/2019 09:35

Harriet.

And what about Clare? I think it’s much better than Clara.

RebeccaRae · 28/08/2019 09:43

Thanks so much for your feedback everyone, and also for so many lovely suggestions - I've liked every one so far!

Charlotte.

formerbabe · 28/08/2019 09:48

Charlotte (Lottie) lovely but very popular
Clara nice enough
Harriet really dislike, one of my least favourite names but very popular on mn.
Saoirse never heard it before but love it
Alexis love
Ailsa love

BelfortGabbz · 28/08/2019 23:25

All nice apart from Harriet.

MrsBertBibby · 29/08/2019 00:32

Charlotte (Lottie) : very dull, hate Lottie
Clara : quite dull
Harriet : meh. Overused
Saoirse : lovely. Use this!
Alexis : nice but Lexi is awful
Ailsa : ugly

I would have used Nina and Edith, but no girls.

IckleBear · 29/08/2019 09:20

Alessia
Rosa

Colourfulest · 29/08/2019 09:54

Saoirse is my favorite. Is it not pronounced Seer-sha though?
