Can you tell me how you feel about the name Owen? Any stereotypes?

I like it a lot. Can't think of any negatives.

sarahC40 · 26/08/2019 00:29

I’ve got one. We planned on naming him that and Welsh ggm assumed it was after Owain ab Gruffydd, lord of Glyndyfrdwy (c. 1359 – c. 1415), or simply Owain Glyndŵr or Glyn Dŵr (pronounced [ˈoʊain ɡlɨ̞nˈduːr], anglicized to Owen Glendower), was a Welsh rebel. A friend assumed it was after Michael Owen (nope - just rugby fans in this house). Mil announced that she hated that name, to which dh replied ‘definitely going to call him that now’.

sarahC40 · 26/08/2019 00:29

Should add she calls him lovely Owen now

Grufallosfriends · 26/08/2019 08:05

I don't like it.

Cbeebiesrehab · 26/08/2019 08:21

I’m welsh and find it a bit dated as a lot of my peers were called Owen. I prefer the Owain spelling/pronunciation but that’s just personal preference.

Love it

GrimSisters · 26/08/2019 08:33

I know several Owens. One is a massive Welshman (Owain) who plays rugby and the others are, I'm afraid, a bit wet. Sorry.Blush

ParkheadParadise · 26/08/2019 08:35

I like it

BikeRunSki · 26/08/2019 08:37

I like it too.

Nutjobby · 26/08/2019 08:43

I like Owen and Ewan. I vaguely know someone whose name is pronounced y-eye-yun but I don't know how you're spelling that.

Chwaraeteg · 26/08/2019 08:43

It's a lovely, warm sounding name.

AverageMummy · 26/08/2019 08:58

The opposite of posh...

I do like it though

user1493494961 · 26/08/2019 09:36

It's a bit bland, nothing to dislike about it really.

Frith2013 · 26/08/2019 10:28

It’s ok. I called my son another Welsh name in the end but it was on my list.

IsobelRae23 · 26/08/2019 11:08

@Nutjobby I’m assuming you mean Ieuan

Jellycat00 · 26/08/2019 11:11

I like Owen. But i prefer Evan which i feel is in a similar vein. Also Ethan is lovely. There's also Ewan which is nice.

sklflknsflsdf · 26/08/2019 18:24

I like it. It was in our top 5 for DS1 but we went with something else in the end.

finallychangedmyusername · 27/08/2019 14:41

I like it, I think it's a name that suits all ages, great name.
