Athena - the only name I truly love.

I really like it, though have a minor preference for Athene -- though I suppose you would potentially get people mispronouncing it as 'A-THEEN', then, so maybe Athena is safer.

When I was ten or eleven I loved a novel by (I think?) Jane Gardam called The Summer After the Funeral, about an eccentric teenage girl called Athene who believes she's the reincarnation of Emily Bronte.

Love. Love. Love. ❤️

Kanga83 · 25/08/2019 17:17

I love it. I know Greek sisters called Athena and Elena. Beautiful name.

WildCherryBlossom · 25/08/2019 17:24

Not too ridiculous at all. It's a known name, not widely used and very pretty sounding. Perfect!

ConfCall · 25/08/2019 18:24

Gorgeous. I know one, she’s 2.5yo.

SoftBlocks · 25/08/2019 18:25

Athene is lovely too.

BogglesGoggles · 25/08/2019 18:27

This seems a bit weird to me but I can’t quite put my finger on why. Maybe it’s just that Athena is too famous?

OtraCosaMariposa · 25/08/2019 18:31

Athena is a great name. Strong, classical and not going to date. I am similarly fond of Adelaide.

DuchessOfDukeStreet · 25/08/2019 18:35

Love it. The Athena I know is Greek and pronounces it Athen-NAR, rather than Athee-na, as I've generally heard it here.

IckleBear · 25/08/2019 18:38

Lovely

Masharla · 25/08/2019 18:57

Athena is a beautiful name.

We went for a name from Greek mythology with Ilithyia :)

Grinchly · 25/08/2019 19:01

I'm not one at all for unusual names generally, but I do think Athena is lovely.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 25/08/2019 19:07

Athena: wise choice of name Wink

Peachbubble · 25/08/2019 19:13

I like it. I know one aged 7.

GrannyHaddock · 25/08/2019 19:38

Great!

dementedma · 25/08/2019 19:44

Its nice. I also know an Athene which is lovely

SemperIdem · 25/08/2019 19:45

I think it.

I know an Athena, in her early 30’s.

BikeRunSki · 25/08/2019 19:47

Not really out there

Colourfulest · 25/08/2019 19:47

It's definitely on the rise!

Geekynzmum · 25/08/2019 19:53

I love it as a name too. It's not popular but still well known enough to not be out of this world.

Dorsetcamping · 25/08/2019 20:42

I adore Athena (did classical civilisation A level)
Also love Persephone and Isis, although the latter is certainly out of favour!

EdWinchester · 25/08/2019 20:44

Hardly out there, but I don't like it.

Frith2013 · 25/08/2019 21:43

I prefer Athene but Athena is ok.

Antonin · 25/08/2019 21:54

Athena is lovely. To me Atheneum sound vey oldfashioned

Antonin · 26/08/2019 14:20

I mean Athene — bloody auto correct
