We're getting another puppy! No photos yet as hes not quite ready to pick up but he's a lurcher, brown and peppery darker brown on back and face. Being a MN addict, obviously I've created a shortlist for naming him much to dh's amusement.
The rescue centres had no lurcher pups and our whippybed wouldn't accept an older dog so please no lectures. Hes coming from a family we know well who had a happy accident...or 7...with their own lurchers. Anyway this shortlist... thoughts please and other suggestions welcome.
Ludo
Jasper
Asher
Serge
He's greyhound/saluki so will be very leggy and elegant. Any ideas?

I love Ludo, mainly because of The Labyrinth but I don't think it's very elegant...
how arbour Roscoe? My Brother was going to name their saluki cross that but unfortunately he didn't get on with their toddler. Please post pics and your name decision when you get him!

Suzuki the Saluki

Ha ha Suzuki! Aren't names funny? Roscoe makes me think Dukes of Hazzard which is not very elegant! I like Jago...and Django. I really like 2 syllables for dogs. Easier to call! If it helps, my elderly boy is Huey (fun loving criminal) and whippybed is Maya (May-a not Mya)

I think Jasper but I’m not making a firm commitment until I’ve seen a picture Wink

Tillygetsit · 24/08/2019 23:16

We're popping over to see him either tomorrow or Monday so I'll see what I can do Bernards. Great name btw!

Talking of which, IIRC, the Sheriff's beagle was called 'Flash'.

Flash is a cool name for a dog (especially as Lurchers/Salukis/greyhounds run like lightning!).

But you say you prefer 2 syllables, so not to be.
Am quite liking Asher from your list, actually.

Yes, please do share pic when you can. He sounds gorgeous.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 24/08/2019 23:34

Ahem. Meant Basset Hound, not Beagle.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 25/08/2019 01:27

Awwwwww. I can’t wait for the pics.
Out of your list I like Ludo.

No new puppy for us. Very disappointed but to our amazement our old boy who loves everyone didnt love the puppy. Gutted. Thanks for the help. Couldnt take photo as was too busy holding back a snarling dog who has never snarled at anything in 14 years 😥

Tilly I’m really sorry it didn’t work out for you. Maybe he just wants to enjoy his golden years without a pesky pup trying to get nip his ears.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 28/08/2019 08:06

Oh I’m so sorry. Sad

NameChangerAmI · 28/08/2019 08:10

Oh OP, how exciting!

My heart flipped at reading about your new lurcher puppy.

Congratulations Flowers.

NameChangerAmI · 28/08/2019 08:13

Oh, and I think Jasper sounds perfect IMO.

I'm so jealous happy for your family.

I really want a lurcher puppy! Grin
