We're planning on going with Reuben, it seems to be the traditional spelling. Congrats, it's the only boys name we both love.

alwaysdressedinyellow · 21/08/2019 20:22

We know a baby Reuben - lovely name!

Howtotrainyourhamster · 21/08/2019 20:24

Reuben is the correct and imo nicest spelling. Ruben also acceptable. Rueben is completely wrong in the same way as Pheobe is wrong and would potentially be judged.

ohmysoul · 21/08/2019 20:25

Reuben is definitely the best and correct spelling. My nephew is called Reuben, lovely name.

SleepingStandingUp · 21/08/2019 20:26

Great name, DH vetoed it cos he smells

Colourfulest · 21/08/2019 20:28

Reuben. Definitely not Rueben!

heartburn888 · 21/08/2019 21:02

Was thinking about shortening his name to a nickname (only to be used at home and probably only whilst he’s a baby) to rubi but some people seem to think it’s quite girly?

OhMsBeliever · 21/08/2019 21:05

Rueben isn't a proper spelling.

Reuben is the best (I may be saying that because I have oneGrin)

Ruben is acceptable.

Mine is 15 but I still call him Little Roo sometimes even though he's taller than me. Or Rooly.

Greeborising · 21/08/2019 21:08

It’s a very lovely name!

rededucator · 21/08/2019 21:13

Fruin

AutumnalLeaves38 · 21/08/2019 21:24

Reuben's a great name as it is!

(Not so much a 'shortened' name, but a sort-of-a-nickname could be Robin, perhaps?
Tend to think NNs are better when they evolve naturally, though).

mnahmnah · 21/08/2019 21:30

Reuben is the traditional, biblical spelling. Only time i’ve seen Rueben is when people have spelt Reuben wrong! Ruben is the Spanish or Portuguese way. We have a Reuben and he gets Roo.

Crushedvelvetcouch · 21/08/2019 21:33

I have a Reuben and despite it being one of the oldest pooular names nobody spells it correctly.
So yeah, use it at your infuriated peril.

AverageMummy · 21/08/2019 22:19

I’m not a fan of the name but don’t dislike it either
Definitely Reuben though

QOD · 21/08/2019 22:20

My nephew is nicknamed Rue or Ruby lol. I love the name but it’s a suddenly popular one

Sparklysunflower · 21/08/2019 22:45

We know a Reuben- great name. He gets called Reuby (Rooby) for short

Shadow1234 · 21/08/2019 22:58

I have a cousin with this name (in his 40's), who was also called Rue.

Sparklysunflower · 22/08/2019 06:41

Is Rue pronounced Roo or Rue (French for road)?

QOD · 22/08/2019 07:13

They both sound the same yo me @Sparklysunflower

AverageMummy · 22/08/2019 07:43

@QOD I think they mean ‘rooay’ ?

Sparklysunflower · 22/08/2019 07:45

No, I mean rue as in the French word for road, which sounds different to roo. More like rü.

QOD · 22/08/2019 08:11

I say Rue and Roo the same cos I’m a peasant 😂
Shit I passed my French O level too
Roo De Lyon
Rue D Lee on

Same

FairyDust92 · 22/08/2019 08:14

Rubi is a girls nickname I'd thought more roo as a nickname

32flavours · 22/08/2019 09:19

We have a 2 year old Reuben, I agree with a previous poster that his name will get frequently misspelled. His nickname is Roo but he also gets Rubi and Rooster (not from us).

Pippilangstrumpfi · 22/08/2019 17:03

Ruben is another spelling (used on the continent). I think Rubi works for a little boy but not a teenager/young man
