How would you pronounce Alaia?

NannyR · 18/08/2019 13:56

A-laya or maybe A-liar

Frith2013 · 18/08/2019 14:31

Sounds like a garlic based dip.

Knittedfairies · 18/08/2019 14:36

A-laya.

washyourface · 18/08/2019 14:38

Ah- lie- ah.

Like Azzedine Alaïa
Fabulous!

Flowerspowersy · 18/08/2019 14:47

As it's spelled: A lai a (Ah lye ah)

AverageMummy · 18/08/2019 14:50

Uh liar ?

Pippilangstrumpfi · 18/08/2019 14:51

Ah lye ah

There's no R at the end Hmm

BlankTimes · 18/08/2019 14:53

Other kids will all say A Liar.

thenailtechmom · 18/08/2019 15:03

Uh-laya

But then I watch the Ace Family

Pippilangstrumpfi · 18/08/2019 15:14

Why would the first syllable be Uh and not Ah?Hmm

AverageMummy · 18/08/2019 15:20

@Pippilangstrumpfi the same way I’d say the a in ‘do you want a drink?’ - more uh than like ah in car??

I’m completely guessing though

Colourfulest · 18/08/2019 15:34

The ai would make me say A liar. Alaya would be nicer.

Colourfulest · 18/08/2019 15:37

@Pippilangstrumpfi correct. There is no R at the end. But you don't pronounce the R really when you say liar. Most pronounce it liah.

We're just pointing out that it sounds like 'a liar'.

thenailtechmom · 18/08/2019 15:49

Yes @AverageMummy that’s what I mean

Scotlass123 · 18/08/2019 15:53

I pronounce the r when saying liar because there’s an r at the end. Why wouldn’t you?

AmyMaria2 · 18/08/2019 17:01

Uh lay a

RebeccaCloud9 · 18/08/2019 17:05

Oh FFS yet ANOTHER thread where some idiot makes a comment about pronouncing the r. For me, and many, many others, ar sounds exactly the same as ah (car, ta, haha all rhyme).

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 18/08/2019 18:44

Ah-lie-uh
(to rhyme with 'a fire' )

Really pretty name!

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 18/08/2019 18:47

and I've just looked up the meaning(s): 'sublime' and 'joyful'.
What's not to like?

RebeccaCloud9 · 18/08/2019 20:24

I wasn't saying they are idiotic for thinking they're different.

The point is that the pp says 'there's no r, why would you pronounce one?'

Have these people seriously never heard any accent that doesn't? Hmm

tripletmum8 · 18/08/2019 21:38

We considered it pronounces Ah-la-ee-ah the Spanish way

Balladenny · 18/08/2019 21:44

A-liar. Not good.

Argeles · 18/08/2019 21:50

Gorgeous name.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 18/08/2019 21:53

Ah-Lee-a
