Name you loved but it was just too quirky?

Is there a name you didn’t use because it was just too quirky or “out there” but still love?

I loved Starr, Juniper and Skye, DH vetoed! (Don’t even think those are that quirky, tbh.)

Tiger Lily. Can't remember why I love this name so much, think it's from a Disney film?
I've loved it since I was a little girl but DH thinks I'm a twat and would never even consider it.. so guess what name I'm using for the next female cat we get Grin

Owlsintowels · 18/08/2019 00:11

I so wanted to call DS Wolf or Dante

Axel does not mean armpit in German. The word for armpit in German is Achsel. The two words are neither written, nor pronounced, the same way. Axel is prevalent as a first name in German-speaking countries,

Love quirky names and always wanted savannah-blu but never had another girl
My dd has a (in my opinion) quirky name

mumofbeagles · 18/08/2019 01:12

Percy- Dh wouldn't have it because if Percy pigs

ilovepixie · 18/08/2019 01:15

Pixie is my dogs name!

Name you loved but it was just too quirky?
Cassandrainthenight · 18/08/2019 01:20

Since when Felix is a quirky name? Know quite a few babies and and toddlers Felixes, and a couple of adults.

Artemis for a boy sounds ignorant to me 🙄. It's the name of a Greek goddess of vegetation, childbirth and hunting (Roman name: Diana).
Boy's version is Artem in some countries, I think.

I know a grown up Ariadne(mid-30s), always admired her parents' bravery in naming her, just borrowing again from Greek mythology.

Kat70 · 18/08/2019 01:34

My dd is Skye Blue and I have only had positive comments. Be brave! Name your baby what you really want to. And she loves her name.

Secretlifeofme · 18/08/2019 01:35

Cordelia :( I have loved it for years, it made it to the longlist but DH wouldn't keep it on the shortlist of names for our baby due in October

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 18/08/2019 04:55

Oh god yes @IsobelRae23 - I too really like Isis bit I’m not sure it’s got the most positive connotations right now

Loveislandaddict · 18/08/2019 05:08

Loving Oberon.

Sabrina - my favourite Charlie Angel (showing my age) and then Sabrina the Witch came along

Dylan - prior to Catherine Zeta Jones naming her son Dylan, this was fairly unusual (outside Wales). Dh vetoed it.

Bjorn - always fancied using a Scandinavian name, and Bjorn Borg was a huge tennis star growing up.

BikeRunSki · 18/08/2019 05:13

Isambard and Lorelei

willowmelangell · 18/08/2019 05:28

Wolfgang. I didn't dare.

Camsie30 · 18/08/2019 05:30

Queenie. Still love it!

1066vegan · 18/08/2019 06:13

A pp said that using Artemis as a boy's name sounds ignorant. Like that pp, I first came across Artemis when reading stories of Greek gods.

But to many people, the first association would be with Artemis Fowl, the boy who is the main character in the series of books by Eoin Colfer.

1066vegan · 18/08/2019 06:18

@Frokni dd has a friend called Kizzy but she was named after the girl in Rumer Godden's "The diddakoi" (which was shown on children's TV decades ago as "Kizzy") rather than after the character in Roots.

Toneitdown · 18/08/2019 06:21

Cosmo

Flowerspowersy · 18/08/2019 06:42

Lots of names here aren't quirky or unusual round here at all... eg Felix, Quentin, Dylan, Clementine They're pretty common

BikeRunSki · 18/08/2019 06:57

@IsobelRae23 and @PaulHollywoodsSexGut, I was dead set on Isis for DD - fortunately 8 years ago, DH’s political astuteness outweighed my crazy pg hormones.

whatausername · 18/08/2019 07:13

Hortensia. Hatshepsut. Vadim (possibly too weird as it sounds so very Russian to anglophone ears). Yahya.

Frokni · 18/08/2019 07:48

@1066vegan I like the fact the name is across more mediums and has been a persons name. I do actually love it as a name! We should have got brave, just like Kizzy! Smile

motortroll · 18/08/2019 08:17

@Beetlebum1981 Lars was on my list for my first, but she's a girl so....

Currently loving Cecelia for a girl....I can't do boys names, I only have girls!!

I'm not having any more though so.....

My girls all have unusual names none of them share their name with anyone in school but they are actually all "ordinary" traditional names.
