Name you loved but it was just too quirky?

Is there a name you didn’t use because it was just too quirky or “out there” but still love?

I loved Starr, Juniper and Skye, DH vetoed! (Don’t even think those are that quirky, tbh.)

Quinn, but for a boy. Only reason we didn’t use it was because we found the one we loved more. I still look at DS and think Quinn would have suited him.

Redgrave. After Sir Steve. We were too wussy.

mininionsteve · 17/08/2019 22:09

i was obsessed with Oberon for a while. I was talked round and went for an old man name instead!

Dodie. DH vetoed it.

Jamjarmama · 17/08/2019 22:17

Queenie, Calypso, Cassius and Horatio

Mabelchiltern1 · 17/08/2019 22:19

Thisbe..... love it but peeps said it sounds like frisbee. Our dcs actual names are listed upthread Grin

measureformeasure · 17/08/2019 22:20

Lysander. Loved it but was squarely vetoed by DH and DM.

ShowOfHands · 17/08/2019 22:20

I wanted Sacha for DS but it's used for girls too much now. He does have Erasmus as one of his names though!

KaySarahSarah · 17/08/2019 22:20

I am sorry but Thisbe makes me laugh.

I imagine a rude mechanical dressed up!

Worlds0kayestmum · 17/08/2019 22:21

Clementine

3boysandabump · 17/08/2019 22:21

My dh works for a car manufacturer and refused to name his son after a car part though

mistermagpie · 17/08/2019 22:27

@HabbyHadno I have a Hamish and don't think it's quirky at all! We are in Scotland though, it's maybe quirkier if you're not?

Mine are Clementine for a girl and Kester and Merlin for a boy.

bluebellation · 17/08/2019 22:28

ImportantWater I think Linnet is a wonderful name. I've never heard it used as a name but it's so lyrical (too old for any more myself but I'll slip it in as a suggestion for future grandchildren).

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 17/08/2019 22:29

Iolo, Iago and Ioan (the initial I is pronounced y)
Illtyd - all deemed too Welsh for English husband's family

Jonquil
Clemency
Tabitha
Dorcas

happytobemrsg · 17/08/2019 22:31

It’s quirky for my family at least - Xanthe

HabbyHadno · 17/08/2019 22:35

@mistermagpie we have a very Scottish surname and we're not Scottish, so it seemed a bit much but we really regret it now as we both still love the name.

Frokni · 17/08/2019 22:40

Kizzy- was too much like a cat name, plus not many people know the book 'Roots'.
