I've got my gender scan on Sunday but still want to think of names for both genders...

I'm stuck between two for a boy and would love peoples opinions, regardless of first name my baby's middle name is going to be John, my two favourites are...

Hadley John

Or

Kingsley John

I'd appreciate hearing people's favourites Grin

I’m sorry OP I don’t like either.

I like John though Grin

If I heard of a Hadley I'd presume it was a female (but I am in the US - maybe it is a known male name in UK?). Of the two I prefer Kingsley.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/08/2019 23:41

Oh I quite like Kingsley. I also like Hadley, but I think it’s a girls name.

BackforGood · 15/08/2019 23:46

I think they both sound like surnames.

I like John though (as long as your surname isn't Thomas)

RainbowMum11 · 16/08/2019 00:08

20 week scan is the anomaly scan to check that your baby is developing ok. It is not a 'gender' scan - you may be able to find out at this scan but it is secondary to the reason for the scan and they may not be able to tell you.

Expressedways · 16/08/2019 00:13

John is great, can you not have that as a first name?! I really don’t like either of your first name picks and I’ve heard both as baby girls’ names recently. I am in the US though so maybe it’s different in the UK?!

Shadow1234 · 16/08/2019 02:34

Kingsley

WildCherryBlossom · 16/08/2019 03:07

Hadley is a girls name. I prefer Kingsley of the two anyway. The only one I know of is Kingsley Amis the author (father of Martin Amis).

diddlediddle · 16/08/2019 07:33

As pps have said, people will assume Hadley is a girl.

Kingsley is a bit grim but definitely the better of the two.

Ritatheryvita · 16/08/2019 07:43

I've come across two Hadleys and both were female so Kingsley wins for me.

Cbeebiesrehab · 16/08/2019 10:44

Rainbow maybe they’ve paid for a gender scan privately? It’s quite common.

I went to school with a male Hadley so find it masculine. I’ve never met a female Hadley though. Prefer Kingsley, although neither are my choice of style.

Crunchymum · 16/08/2019 13:38

@RainbowMum11

Given scan is on a Sunday, I am assuming it's a private scan and is indeed to tell the OP the sex of her baby (sex not gender!)

IsobelRae23 · 16/08/2019 13:55

Hadley I have always known as a girls name.

Actually Kingsley I’ve only heard on girls. Although I know it’s a male name. A lot of people have difficulty saying Kingsley out loud. The gls part gets muddled.

SophiaLarsen · 16/08/2019 15:45

I agree I know Hadley as a girl's name (and o am British). However I went to school with a male Jody and he rocked it so I am sure it would work. It's not like it's Margaret or anything.

Kingsley I think has more gravitas if that's what you are thinking of? Possibly because I am thinking of Kingsley Amis!

CakeRattleandRoll · 16/08/2019 15:53

I would also assume Hadley was a girl.
I like Kingsley John though.

joystir59 · 16/08/2019 15:56

Don't like John Hadley or Kingsley tbh.

CellarFloor · 16/08/2019 16:01

Neither, sorry

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 16/08/2019 16:16

John is a lovely name, very underused. A timeless classic for a reason.

Bluebellssnowbells · 16/08/2019 17:03

Absolutely love John.
Hate the first names. Both of them.
Hadley is a girly name though if that makes a difference.
Please just call your baby John

IckleBear · 16/08/2019 17:27

Don't like either but John is lovely

Sexnotgender · 16/08/2019 17:29

Not a fan of either. John is ok.

FamilyOfAliens · 16/08/2019 17:31

Hadley Freeman is a woman who writes for The Guardian.

Sorry, don’t like Kingsley.

user1493494961 · 16/08/2019 18:35

Not keen on either.

Vasya · 16/08/2019 18:40

While Hadley is traditionally a girl's name, I think it is fine for a boy too. I prefer it to Kingsley.

Antonin · 16/08/2019 21:27

I think Hadley is another of those names used first as a boys name and then as a girls name. My nephew Hadley is now 30.
I like Kingsley. Kingsley John Surname has a ring to it.
Preferable to the old men’s names now so popular on MN
