Belle or Rosa?

Belle is a family name and we had decided on that but I have always been in love with Rose/Rosa and dismissed them because DH said he hated them. But then, the other day in passing he said that he loved them! (Anyone else’s husband do this by the way? Decide they hate a name (or vice versa) and then a few days later claim they love it (or vice versa) and deny having ever heard it before? 🤔)

Anyway, back on topic.

I adore both Rose and Rosa but Rosa has more positive connections for me as it’s the name of several strong, intelligent or inspirational women in history which is a connection i’d love for my daughter! We are also quite an international family (I’m from England, husband is from another country, we are living in a third country and because of our jobs will probably move elsewhere abroad in the future too) so I feel that Rosa travels really well.

I love the sound of Rose and Belle too - I just think they’re so beautiful!

My question is, what would you pick?

Belle’s middle name would probably be Roma, another family name which id love to use but couldn’t with Rose or Rosa.

My concern with Belle - if she went to school in England at any stage would everyone call her ‘Bellend’?

Also, our surname starts with an ‘al’ sound so it maybe a bit of a mouthful (although not too bad to say. The two names sort of flow into each other and need to be said with a bit of a deliberate gap between the two.)

Rose or Rosa’s middle name would be Genevieve (DH’s favorite name but one which we had to abandon due to both having an unexplained hatred of the nickname Jenny.) Can’t think of anything negative for either name and both sound fine with the surname, although I think Rosa flows best with Genevieve. Only issue is that older sibling has a name beginning with an R. Can I have two R names? (They don’t sound at all similar other than the initial and I’d make sure any future children didn’t have an R name! I’ve always thought it’s okay with 2 kids but more than 2 becomes a bit Kardashian?)

I’d really appreciate your thoughts, thanks everyone!

Rosa or how about combining them both
Rosabelle.

EssentialHummus · 14/08/2019 12:14

Rosa imo

DramaAlpaca · 14/08/2019 12:19

Rosa

FurrySlipperBoots · 14/08/2019 12:24

Rosabelle Genevieve sounds really pretty. Belle Roma doesn't really flow. If you call her Rosabelle you can call her both Rosa and Belle interchangeably.

workshyfop · 14/08/2019 12:25

Rosa Genevieve.

Chitarra · 14/08/2019 12:27

Rosa

LuluBellaBlue · 14/08/2019 12:34

One of my best friends is Genevieve - she’s 40 and has never been called Jenny!
Gen, Genevieve, Lady Gen Grin, I’d say if that’s the one you love then go for that one.

However I love Rosa more than Belle, but that’s probably because my nickname is Bella which I like more than Belle 😂

Fourcandlesx · 14/08/2019 12:45

Another vote for Rosabelle 😊

Peachbubble · 14/08/2019 12:55

Rosa

PetraRabbit · 14/08/2019 13:35

Belle is a bit boring these days and also a bit twee. Rosa is beautiful, striking and grown-up. No contest! I love Risa Genevieve- amazing name!

PetraRabbit · 14/08/2019 13:36

Rosa not Risa!

marmitelover84 · 14/08/2019 14:02

I love Belle! Going against the grain. But both are beautiful.

Rosabel is nice too, a little on the frilly side for me, but a good suggestion.

Shadow1234 · 14/08/2019 14:04

Rosa is beautiful, not keen on Belle.

Vivi890 · 14/08/2019 14:28

Thank you everyone, I’m really happy with these responses! Off to show DH!

As for Rosabelle/Rosabel, I agree that the sound is beautiful but they sound a little much with our surname. I think Rosa is the one! Grin

Rosa.

CitizensNotSubjects · 14/08/2019 18:12

Rosa is gorgeous but I think with a surname starting in "A" I might prefer the sound of Rose.

youarenotkiddingme · 14/08/2019 18:23

I'd probably go for Bella Rose!

I do love Rosa as a name and also Belle. But this way you kinda get both!

Sophronia · 14/08/2019 23:45

Rosa Genevieve is lovely

AverageMummy · 15/08/2019 09:01

Rosa is beautiful
Belle isn’t

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 15/08/2019 14:12

I think if you call a girl Belle and she isn't good-looking, people will comment. It's a bit of a shallow name in my opinion. Much prefer Rosa and the combination with Genevieve is great.

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 15/08/2019 14:26

Rosa

QuiteForgetful · 15/08/2019 14:29

Bella Rose is nice, and Rosa Genevieve. Whichever you choose, you can't go wrong, all your contenders are good.

Mammyloveswine · 15/08/2019 15:15

Rosabelle is lovely! As is Rosa Belle.
