Opinions please, I know a girl (17) with this name and she hates it but I quite like it as a first name since it’s always used as a middle name (coming from the person who has a daughter called Callie Louise)

OP posts:

It’s inoffensive but dated and a middle name filler like today’s Rose, Grace, May.

ParkheadParadise · 11/08/2019 20:01

Dd1's middle name (27yrs)

TheWildAndTheCurious · 11/08/2019 20:02

Eloïse is much nicer. And less dated.

DramaAlpaca · 11/08/2019 20:02

I agree with you, OP. I think it's a beautiful, classic name that's wasted as a middle name & should be used more often as a first name.

It was absolutely a filler middle name in the 60s & 70s, along with Jane & Ann/e.

Louisa is used as a first name more often than Louise these days, but I do prefer Louise.

SpoooyGhost · 11/08/2019 20:04

I think it's a classic. Sounds beautiful, it's due a real comeback.

flossiefloo · 11/08/2019 20:06

I hate the ‘wheeze’ part. A classic though.

Lilyrose90 · 11/08/2019 20:08

I think Louise is lovely

nrpmum · 11/08/2019 20:09

My dd is a Louise - she is 10.

missmouse101 · 11/08/2019 20:11

I like it, and I like Lulu as a nickname for it. Eloise is nowhere near as pretty sounding!

growlingbear · 11/08/2019 20:13

I prefer Louisa, Lucy or Eloise. I just can't get past the 'loo' sound. Why give your child a name with a nickname for toilet in it? (It's a family name btw - my mum and granny both had it, but our generation ditched it.)

99mTc · 11/08/2019 20:16

Sounds frumpy to me.

Pinkallium · 11/08/2019 20:18

Nice, and would be unusual these days. I also really like
Louisa.

Firsttimemama2017 · 11/08/2019 20:19

I know one 21 Yr old and one 40 year old so I don't think it's dated. I think it's a pretty name and would be less popular with babies these days

MondeoFan · 11/08/2019 20:20

It's a no from me I know a few in their 40s I can't imagine a baby Louise for some reason

CoffeeRunner · 11/08/2019 20:22

Like many girls born in the 70’s & 80’s, Louise is my middle name.

I do like it, but it also sounds like it should be the name of a laxative. Loo-ease.

CloserIAm2Fine · 11/08/2019 20:24

It’s my middle name (along with most women born in the 70s and 80s!), it was deliberately chosen as a popular name to go with my unusual first name. But I’ve never liked it! I just don’t like the sound of it.

TheRLodger · 11/08/2019 20:25

I quite like it. I went through the phase of hating my first name and thought about using it instead as it’s my middle name

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/08/2019 20:38

Definitely due a come back.

joystir59 · 11/08/2019 20:39

Not keen but like Eloise and Louisa, and Elise even more. How about Elizabeth? Timeless classic.

joystir59 · 11/08/2019 20:39

Lisette is very pretty

Raera · 11/08/2019 20:40

Love Louise

fromthefloorboardsup · 11/08/2019 20:47

It's my middle name and I've always hated it (sorry)

AuntieStella · 11/08/2019 20:48

I'm of the generation where (it seemed) every other girl had Louise as a middle name.

Despite that, I like it; though I prefer Louisa

BigBairyHollocks · 11/08/2019 20:52

Louise is a very pretty name.

HairyToity · 11/08/2019 20:52

I like the name Louise. Very pretty to my ears.
