Triplet name help - again...

littlebitstressed · 10/08/2019 12:51

Hi, a while back I asked for help naming my triplets who are due at the end of September. We decided on Spanish names as I am half Spanish but we are really struggling to agree on girls names and can only think of one boys name, please give opinions on these and suggest some boys names:

Boys:
Mateo

Girls:
Liliana (Lily)
Inès
Aurora
Viviana (Vivi)

However, we have always said that if we have a daughter with red hair we will call her Rowan (long story). This means that if one of the babies is a girl with red hair we will steer away from Spanish names as we don’t want her to sound as if she is the odd one out. Please can you also give opinions on these names if this is the case and suggest any more non-Spanish names:

Boys:
Thomas
Oscar
Luke

Girls:
Rowan
Violet
Leila
Isla

I know this is a lot to ask but it’s getting close and we haven’t really got anywhere with names in the past couple of months.

Thanks

Mateo - lovely
Liliana - like
Inès - like
Aurora - love
Viviana - like
Thomas - dull
Oscar - dog’s name
Luke - like
Rowan - dislike
Violet - ok
Leila - love love love. L sounds are so beautiful.
Isla - nice but sooooo popular. Go with something a bit different.

For girls I like Aurora and Leila best. Mateo and Luke for a boys.

Congratulations on your 3❤️

sleepismysuperpower1 · 10/08/2019 13:03

for the spanish ones, l really like Viviana and Inès, and i also like mateo for a boy. for your english names, i like rowan and leila for a girl, and luke and oscar for a boy.

can i also suggest for the spanish boys name:
Tomas
Fabio
Diego
Javier
Manu or Manolo
Rene

congratulations!

Fruitchouli · 10/08/2019 13:07

Mateo, Aurora & Viviana. Beautiful!

MrsBertBibby · 10/08/2019 13:18

Ines is glorious. Vivian is v nice. Not keen on the other two.

Mateo is lovely.

I love Robert and Conrad. Not keen on your English girl names! So I hope you don't get a redhead!

Cookit · 10/08/2019 14:05

This may sound pedantic - but how will you know if she has red hair?
Some babies are born with virtually no hair and others their hair changes. Both my children had very dark hair when born but within 2 weeks it was very different, one is blond-ish (I assume will go darker over the years but possibly never as dark as it looked in the first week) and one reddish - but I had no inkling they would have reddish hair until then.

WildCherryBlossom · 10/08/2019 15:31

I think you can blend your lists and have names that work in both languages. You can keep Rowan in the mix and use some other Spanglish names with it. Eg Rafael, Gabriel, Inigo or Sebastian. Oscar or Lucas (rather than Luke) would be manageable for both sides of the family.

Of your girls names, I love Ines. Liliana works equally well in both languages. Isla sounds totally different in Spanish to English as do Viviana & Violet so I'm not sure that they work so well. Leila is beautiful - Middle Eastern. Sounds lovely in both languages. I knew a lovely Colombian girl called Leilani years ago. Similar to Liliana and Leila. How about Maya or Gabriela? And, I know this is heavily overused in Spain but María sounds so pretty in English. Another popular international girl's name would be Ana / Anna.

EugeniaGrace · 10/08/2019 15:41

I agree with @WildCherryBlossom that you can mix your English and Spanish list.

I like Matteo and Luke. Thomas is very neutral name so goes with them well, as do Sebastian, Gabriel, and Rafael.

Liliana (Lily), Aurora, and Leila are my favourite of your girl’s names. I prefer Vivienne to Viviana. If you have three girls, i’d use this rather than Lily and Leila together as they are too similar.

Miguel
Rafael
Dante
Elias
Jorge
Luis

JiltedJohnsJulie · 10/08/2019 16:23

My DS was born strawberry blonde. His hair fell out and grew back blonde. He's a teen now and still blonde. My DSister was born with black hair and has been honey blonde ever since.

Buyitinbamboo · 10/08/2019 16:46

I wouldn't name them based in hair colour. My DD had black hair for the first 3 months. It's not very very light blonde! I think Mateo is lovely

PetraRabbit · 10/08/2019 17:01

I love your Spanish names so would go with your original Mateo, Inés and Viviana. But I do understand your dilemma with Rowan if you end up with one very obviously red headed girl. If by some chance you have a red headed boy too then Rufus is an option!
I find some of the English names a bit dull- there are so many boys called Thomas. Oscar is also quite common and although it's used in Europe I'd see it as very English, much like Thomas or Luke. I think it's a shame not to use some of the more beautiful Spanish names. I agree with previous posters that as a compromise more continental, romantic names like Gabriel, Sebastian etc are better. Aurora I'd say is one to avoid. The pronunciation is so different in Spanish and in English just sounds like 'roar', plus it's very very trendy so will possibly date a lot too. Leila I'd assume was muslim so is no more neutral with Rowan than Inés would be. Why Violet and not the prettier and more Spanish Violeta? Also Violet and Rowan are two plants so you'd need a boy's name to follow that theme and I'm not sure that's what you'd want? Valentina is pretty, unless it's too much for your taste?

8by8 · 10/08/2019 17:04

You definitely can’t name based on hair colour, it often changes.

DS1 was bald until 3 months, redhead till 10 months and blond ever since. That’s a really common pattern.

Lara53 · 10/08/2019 19:56

Luca

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 10/08/2019 20:03

I agree with others. My son was born with loads of bright orange hair, after about 2 weeks it all fell out and came back dark brown. He is 3 now and definitely has brown hair.

I love all your Spanish names. I would probably use rowan as a middle name Liliana rowan is lovely.

CamdenTownie · 10/08/2019 20:16

DS has a friend called Javier - they call him havi for short (obviously it's actually Javi - but thought I'd write it as it's said) I love it, it's so cool 😎

userabcname · 10/08/2019 20:21

Of your Spanish names I like Mateo, Liliana and Viviana the best. Non-spanish, I like Oscar, Rowan and Leila.

tripletmum8 · 10/08/2019 23:05

The comment about the redhair when it was first made 9 years ago during my first pregnancy was a joke because we loved the name but associated it with red haired children as for some reason we’d only ever met red heads with the name. However, out twins were born with very dark hair (clearly from the Spanish side of the family) and my other two daughters and son were born with light brown hair, the youngest’s went blonde over the first few years but the other two kept their brown hair, although during the summer my daughters would go slightly ginger. We understand it sounds stupid and if we do have a red haired girl her hair could change colour but we’d still love it as a name anyway.

frizzattack · 12/08/2019 08:44

Inès is such a beautiful name

WildCherryBlossom · 12/08/2019 13:36

@manicinsomniac Camino? Really? That's pretty unusual. Means road, path, route... (but I suppose a heavily religious family might possibly choose it in reference to a pilgrimage...?)

manicinsomniac · 14/08/2019 09:28

wildcherryblossom yes. 11 year old girl I taught last year. She's back in Spain now. I didn't know it was an unusual name though I do know it's the name of some of the big walking routes.

tripletmum8 · 14/08/2019 10:56

WildCherryBlossom manicinsomniac I’ve just asked my mum (who is Spanish and loves half the year in Spain) about it and the girl a few houses down is called Camino. I’ve never heard of it but I kinda like it.

WildCherryBlossom · 14/08/2019 12:07

Interesting! I've never heard it.

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 20/08/2019 18:51

Love
Mateo
Liliana
Ines
Aurora
Also as you are Spanish I would add Javier to your boys list
