We thought we had a name picked but now have changed our minds. We like these names as they’re a bit more unusual, which is your favourite?

Daegan
Lochlan
Judah
Moses

We absolutely adore Moses but worry it’s a bit too out there. We aren’t bothered about how religious it sounds, as there’s plenty of Noah’s about and years ago that would’ve seemed a bit out there.

Go for it with Moses.

BikeRunSki · 09/08/2019 13:22

You’re worried that Mosses sounds too religious, but have suggested Judah as an alternative Confused?

BikeRunSki · 09/08/2019 13:24

Moses and Lochlan are the most mainstream,

CatteStreet · 09/08/2019 13:24

Moses is lovely.

Judah is too susceptible to being confused with or misread as Judas.

CatteStreet · 09/08/2019 13:24

Wouldn't Lochlan be spelled Lachlan?

PaquitaVariation · 09/08/2019 13:26

Lochlan, although I would spell it Lachlan. I don’t mind ‘religious’ names but neither Moses nor Judah do it for me. Never heard of Daegan and I must have met thousands of children now in a professional capacity, so if you want unusual go for that one.

Bookworm4 · 09/08/2019 13:30

Laughlin or Lachlan, Lochlan isn’t a spelling of the name.

IAintWroteNoPoetry · 09/08/2019 13:37

@BikeRunSki Well Jude is getting very popular, and he’d most likely have it shortened to Jude, so people wouldn’t make the same connection with that as they would with Moses.

I do like the Lachlan spelling, but a lot of people I know pronounce it ‘Lack-lan’ then, rather than ‘Lock-Lan’.

I know two Moses , one mid 30s , one 70ish , related to each other , it's quite common as are most biblical names in certain ethnic backgrounds
Know a lovely Lochlan late 20s - 1/2 Irish

daisypond · 09/08/2019 13:39

Lachlan- spelled that way. I wouldn’t consider the others.

Thegracefuloctopus · 09/08/2019 13:43

Will moses be sleeping in a moses basket?! Not my cup of tea, but then it's not my child

Expressedways · 09/08/2019 13:45

I like Moses! Lachlan is also very nice but not spelt Lochlan. I don’t like the others.

Isadora2007 · 09/08/2019 13:51

There was baby Moses in emmerdale
Also an evil killer called Lachlan.

I prefer Lachlan but agree with you the spelling is confusing.

Don’t like Judah- too close to Judas.

Dislike Daegan. Sorry.

Pipandmum · 09/08/2019 13:56

Moses is ok but not liking any much. My son had an uncommon biblical name and I’m amazed how most people have no idea of the reference, but Judah sounds like you are a member of a strict Christian community. Jude is better but queue a lot of ‘Hey Jude’...

Pipandmum · 09/08/2019 13:57

Has not had.

Bubbletrouble43 · 09/08/2019 14:01

I'm not one for unusual names but I really like Moses!

IAintWroteNoPoetry · 09/08/2019 14:02

It’s so bloody hard naming a baby!. We both definitely prefer Moses to anything else, we were just worried it was too ‘out there’z

OP posts:
user1493494961 · 09/08/2019 14:15

You're worried about Moses being 'out there' but not Daegan. At least I've heard of Moses.

diddlediddle · 09/08/2019 14:21

Just choose Moses if you like it the best. People have heard of it, can pronounce it, and it doesn't have bad connotations. Mo is a cute nn.

Bookworm4 · 09/08/2019 14:24

I’m with @tiddlyipom don’t use a name you can’t pronounce or spell, Lochlan isn’t a name, the correct spellings have been given and it’s a Scottish name with no harsh ck sound hence the ch; loch not lock.
I’ll guess you’re not Scottish 🙄

IAintWroteNoPoetry · 09/08/2019 14:34

I’ll go with Moses then

OP posts:
BikeRunSki · 09/08/2019 14:38

Moses is not really “out there”.0

Frith2013 · 09/08/2019 15:51

Daegan - no, makes me think of dagging a sheep
Lochlan - no
Judah - is that a place name? It’s bearable.
Moses - ok

Sianlouise432 · 09/08/2019 15:53

I know a Lauchlan spelt this way. Also called lockey. I agree with pp, judah sounds like judas and das is nicht gut.
