Isn't Acacia pronounced A-kay-sha

SoftBlocks · 09/08/2019 10:53

I would go with Thea. It’s s lovely name although it’s getting quite popular now, don’t know if that bothers you.

Acacia makes me think honey/ Avenue.

Robs20 · 09/08/2019 10:56

I much prefer Thea, although it is v popular atm. Acacia I would pronounce A-kay-sha and it makes me think of the mining company...

Ikeameatballs · 09/08/2019 10:57

I really don’t like Acacia.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 09/08/2019 10:58

Acacia makes me think of Bananaman Grin

Soubriquet · 09/08/2019 11:03

Acacia is a tree and is pronounced Ah-Kay-Sha

You will be correcting them everytime

Thea is ok though

ilovemykids5 · 09/08/2019 11:22

Oh no didn't realise it was getting popular.

I like Thea.
Have only ever known two IRL: age 45 and 4.

If you wanted alternatives, I find names with a similar feel to them are
-Freya
-Esme
-Niamh/Neve (the 'Neev' pronunciation)
-Maeve

Hmmmbop · 09/08/2019 19:24

I love Thea.

Hate Acacia. I also think Bananaman!

Atlasta · 09/08/2019 19:26

Really don't like Acacia. Tree. Avenue. Just no.
Thea is better but very feline to meConfused

georgialondon · 09/08/2019 19:30

Thea I like. acacia just makes me think Avenue.

Vasya · 09/08/2019 19:31

Thea is pretty.

Acacia is a variety of particularly horrible thorns in South Africa and is a bit too made up for my tastes.

AuntieStella · 09/08/2019 19:35

Acacia, like Alicia, might not be 'sha' but 'see-a' at the end. I don't have the patience to explain a multi-pronunciation name over years, and would not lumber a DC with the task either

Thea's fine

CloserIAm2Fine · 09/08/2019 19:53

I really dislike Acacia

Thea is lovely though

DramaAlpaca · 09/08/2019 20:27

I can't stand Thea. To me it sounds weak, insubstantial & lispy.

I'm not mad on Acacia either, but it's got more about it. It's pronounced Ah-KAY-sha, like the plant. I've only met one & she's lovely, so my associations with the name are good ones.

notso · 09/08/2019 20:29

Acacia = Bananaman or honey.

Thea is lovely.

user1493494961 · 09/08/2019 21:04

Thea. Acacia would be ridiculous.

Hmmmbop · 09/08/2019 21:11

Acacia thorns are used in female genital mutilation.

Astronica · 11/08/2019 12:14

I prefer Acacia - but pronounced A-caysh-ah.

pictish · 11/08/2019 12:17

What about Cassia? There used to be a girl in dd’s class with that name. Think it’s another name for cinnamon...or a type of cinnamon.
Always thought it was nice.

Colourfulest · 12/08/2019 08:40

I adore Acacia. DP vetoed. But it's pronounced Ah-kay-sha as pp's have said.

missmouse101 · 12/08/2019 08:47

Thea is just awful. Middle aged and boring.
