Madeline. So pretty.

RuthW · 08/08/2019 17:14

Frances definitely if you can stand the mispronunciations.

Linseedlill · 08/08/2019 17:16

They are both lovely! (Not helpful.)

Disfordarkchocolate · 08/08/2019 17:16

Frances; nearly had one. Lovely name.

NeverSayFreelance · 08/08/2019 17:18

Oh goodness not Frances. Madeleine definitely.

Frith2013 · 08/08/2019 19:13

I like either and would choose Frances.

Or even better - Francesca.

Robs20 · 08/08/2019 19:18

Madeline! I don’t like Frances at all (sorry!).

cavycavy · 08/08/2019 19:21

I vote Madeline. If it was me I would use that spelling (the old English version) because I am English and I feel a bit pretentious using a french spelling just because it looks fancy.

cavycavy · 08/08/2019 19:22

I do like Francesca though

Equatoria · 08/08/2019 19:23

Frances. Pretty, simple and not overly frilly like Francesca.

Sophronia · 08/08/2019 19:46

Frances as I don’t like Maddie

Pineapplefish · 08/08/2019 19:48

I prefer Frances but I really dislike Frankie so that would put me off (in case she ended up with it as a nickname).

PrincessLouis · 08/08/2019 19:59

Frances - an underused classic. It was Princess Di’a middle name I think

Madeline / Madeleine is nice - love the books - but has been a bit trendy recently which would put me off - also the McCann thing

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 08/08/2019 20:02

Frances is lovely. Underused and very elegant.

CatkinToadflax · 08/08/2019 20:02

Frances is dreadful. It’s my middle name and I’ve always loathed it. Madeline is lovely!

TixieLix · 08/08/2019 20:06

I prefer Francine to Frances. I know a man with the name (Francis) and some people get the M/F spellings mixed up.

NoSauce · 08/08/2019 20:18

I love Francine!

MileyWiley · 08/08/2019 20:22

Also hate Frances sorry.

Disfordarkchocolate · 08/08/2019 21:08

They just have to remember the male spelling has a nice erect I.

Disfordarkchocolate · 08/08/2019 21:08

That was for @TixieLix

Ofitck · 08/08/2019 21:12

they’re such different names.

Francés must be a real marmite name, looking at these responses. I’m sorry to say I hate is and have always wondered why anyone would call heir child something so ugly!

Madeline (the English spelling!) on the other hand, I really like. I have one and she doesn’t get called Maddie at all, either full name or Malen/Malin (kind of like saying her name really fast and eating a syllable). I’ve tried Maddie but it sounds all wrong and unnatural onher so I wouldn’t assume itd be shortened!

cavycavy · 08/08/2019 21:25

Not sure why the McCann tragedy means the name Madeline should be vetoed?

Does that mean Sarah, Jessica and Jamie are all inappropriate too?

HairyToity · 08/08/2019 21:29

Frances. Love love love.

EdWinchester · 08/08/2019 21:34

I think Madeline/Madeleine/Maddie is a horribly ugly sounding name.

Frances sounds and looks lovely to me.

fantasmasgoria1 · 08/08/2019 21:38

Madeline definitely. A girl at my school was called Frances and they called her franny at first then franny fanny so for that reason no!
