(Thread isn’t meant to offend anyone - MN hates my Dd and Ds names anyway!)

For me it would have to be Cordelia and Juniper.

Oh yes Margot and Marnie! MN loves them recently

Olive = on the buses
Margot= Margo = snobby neighbour in the good life.

UrsulaPandress · 08/08/2019 12:45

Struggling to understand what's wrong with Cordelia.

Spikeyball · 08/08/2019 12:45

Names that were old woman or man names when I was a child.

ourkidmolly · 08/08/2019 12:49

Finn is the most popular name around here. There's 4 in my son's class including him! It was a compromise name and I regret it because he's fed up as always being known by his surname too. I had no idea it was as popular as Oliver or James. There's 13 of them in the school! Some Finley or Finlay etc I assume.
Another recent name is Grey? For girls. Odd to me. But popular in this area. V trendy. There's 6 Avas in my dd's Year 8.

Milicentbystander72 · 08/08/2019 13:26

My DS's band has been mentioned here but not my DS's which is very surprising to me.

Bring a nearly 50 year old I'm quite fond of the old retro names I heard all the time in school but never now -

Claire
Nicola
Kate

Peter
Matthew

Etc.

My teenage has a Stuart in her year at school and he really stands out over all the Ben's, Ethan's, Kieran's and Jake's Grin

I guess if I had to choose a name I hated it would have to be

Kayden (yes I've known one)
Courtney.

Milicentbystander72 · 08/08/2019 13:26

Band? *name

tresbe · 08/08/2019 13:30

Think some people have misunderstood the point of the thread... it's not names you hate it's names that you don't understand why they are popular! Paris, Bianca, Winter, Courtney, Prudence etc are not popular names

Lavenderblues · 08/08/2019 13:53

But neither are Cordelia and Juniper, the op's examples Hmm

carmellax · 08/08/2019 13:55

On MN Juniper in particular gets mentioned a lot and I know several girls under 3 with this name now

flossiefloo · 08/08/2019 14:05

I’m talking about names which MN seems to love and get used a lot in real life. For ex my daughter is Savannah which is HATED by mumsnet!

itsabootyhole · 08/08/2019 14:13

@flossiefloo my DD's name is scarlett which is also hated here and is apparently a stripper name Grin

I don't get the hype on here about juniper it's awful Confused doesn't even sound like a name.

17caterpillars1mouse · 08/08/2019 14:46

End in an o type names

Juno
Arlo
Margot
Milo

Though I don't mind Leo and Hugo

flossiefloo · 08/08/2019 14:57

@itsabootyhole yes Savannah is also regarded as a ‘stripper name’ !

'Oh now I’m on 2 out of 3.'

Same. DD1s name had been mentioned a LOT. DD3s first name AND middle name have been mentioned. Poor kid.

DD2s name appears to have passed Mumsnet muster. But she has an old lady middle name which actually hasn't been mentioned yet.

NoSauce · 08/08/2019 16:34

Elsie, Edith and Evelyn.
Alfie, Stanley and Ellis.

NoSauce · 08/08/2019 16:35

There is no hype where Cordelia is concerned, surely?

ThatCurlyGirl · 08/08/2019 16:39

I LOVE Ariadne and Arriete as well as Saoirse but would think twice about them having to spell it all the time which is silly. One of my birth names is Aisling which I love but nobody in England seems to be able to spell it. I'm not sure how annoying that is as it hasn't massively bothered me but equally it must be nice and easy to have an Anglicised name over here. I don't know - I'm conflicted my own point! Irish names are beautiful to me but maybe that's selfish of me... I don't know! I can't imagine a baby Nigel / Colin etc now but that might change in a generation or so!

Mesmermancer · 08/08/2019 16:49

can't stand Aviary - I know someone who named their child that and all I could think was... isn't that a name for a bird cage?

Are you sure it wasn't Avery?

Summer54321 · 08/08/2019 16:50

Florrie! I know three and don't get it.

(Feeling snug/relieved that DS name isn't mentioned anywhere)

Fuiseog · 08/08/2019 16:55

@ThatCurlyGirl Mine will definitely have Irish names 😁❤️ I figure that people they know should make the effort, as they would have to with a name from Hungary or Chile or anywhere non-English speaking. Anyone who doesn't is showing something interesting about themselves! As far as the day to day stuff goes, undoubtedly in England it would be more convenient not to have to spell your name all the time, but I figure it is worth it for a lovely name - I don't have an English language name or surname and have had to spell my name all my life so I feel experienced enough at the inconvenience aspect to decide it's worth it / not too bad! That said, my hairdresser has genuinely had the wrong first name and surname in the computer system for me for almost two years 😂🙈

Mesmermancer · 08/08/2019 16:57

Arlo makes me think of Milk.

Me too because we buy Arla milk

Lilyrose90 · 08/08/2019 16:59

Frances

Lilyrose90 · 08/08/2019 17:00

Stanley, Archie, Marnie, Gus

ThatCurlyGirl · 08/08/2019 17:02

@Fuiseog they're GORGEOUS names aren't they! And make me feel connected with my heritage. I kind of wish after foster care I'd have been allowed to keep my super Irish name - it feels more "me" it's just difficult to spell for English speaking people. I think it might be why I'm a little bit in love with Saoirse Ronan!
