(Thread isn’t meant to offend anyone - MN hates my Dd and Ds names anyway!)

For me it would have to be Cordelia and Juniper.

Amelia
Jacob
Jude
Martha all soooo dismal

Lyra it sounds like liar

CuteOrangeElephant · 07/08/2019 23:04

You're right about Cordelia. It doesn't sound right to me. I much prefer Cornelia.

Blastnamechangeagain · 07/08/2019 23:05

It’s an interesting process of why some names are suddenly popular or not.
I don’t like the current trend for names like Stanley, Reggie, Ronnie etc they just seem like old gangster type names to me and I imagine a dodgy car sales man type with a cigarette???? Why ???? No idea maybe from books films etc.
my view will probably change as my DD starts school in September and has 2 Stanley’s in her reception class.

I also don’t get names like Maud (I know 2 little ones), Ethel and Morag being more popular. They are the classic ugly names used as such in worst witch etc. But again they are back in fashion. I just do not understand why?

Personal likes and dislikes or social associations I do understand. I may not like Lily-May myself but I do get why others do for example, I also think it’s lovely we have different tastes.
For me it’s the confusion of digging up old and really rather horrid names or ones with dodgy associations. Why? How does anyone see Ethel as a nice name ? It sounds like offal.

(Ethel is a family nome for me so had to think hard before making the decision not to put it as a middle name. I thus feel initialed to be honest before anyone gets insulted about me using this name as an example)

Frith2013 · 07/08/2019 23:06

My name has appeared 4 times! Grin I’m not keen on it myself!

One of my son’s names has appeared once. So we’re not doing too badly.

Good to see I’m not alone in my irrational loathing of Margot.

JessePinkmanYo · 07/08/2019 23:07

I have a Noah. It's my most favourite name in the whole wide world. Am I bothered it's come up on here a few times now? Nope. Am I fuck. Means there will be a few less Noahs about making mine all the more special Grin

Hate Annabelle. Love Anna, and Belles alright but Annabell is hideous. Name for a doll only.

Hate Kayden/Jayden/Brayden. Dislike Morgan.

Dislike Holly. But this could be because everyone I've met has been a complete bitch.

Movinghouseatlast · 07/08/2019 23:08

Jayden. And names with May attached to them.

All the surnames as first names- Jackson etc.

Harley. Awful.

JessePinkmanYo · 07/08/2019 23:10

Am aware of the irony of me saying 'a few less Noahs about' when it currently sits at no.4 on the top 100 UK baby boy names. My Noah was ahead of his time and it grew in popularity a fews year after. What can I say? I'm a trendsetter Grin Wink

MamaFlintstone · 07/08/2019 23:15

Aurora. Looks nice enough written down, sounds fucking terrible in most people’s accents.

Ihatesundays · 07/08/2019 23:18

Anything double barrelled or with mae.

I’m also shocked at the continuing popularity of Amelia/Olivia/Lily I know a new one this week.

Jaxon or names like it are just horrid.

MoomimWoomin · 07/08/2019 23:22

Wow feeling like I should consider a name change for myself now its been mentioned so many times haha! Blush

broken1982 · 07/08/2019 23:23

I can't bear Ivy, Violet or OLIVER. if I hear one more Oliver I'll crack up. When my kids are in school I can guarentee every boy in their class with be called Oliver eughhh

broken1982 · 07/08/2019 23:27

Also anything double barreled. Absolutely ridiculous. If you like both names then use one for a middle name. Oh and Mae, just shut up

broken1982 · 07/08/2019 23:30

Oh god, Arabella! Bork

LatteLove · 07/08/2019 23:30

I've also met THREE little girls called Sydney which I find really odd.

Oh I like Sydney for a girl! Not really the kind of name I’d usually like but I do!

Don’t really know of any names that are “hyped” but Jack and Olivia, why do people keep going for these, when they’re so common popular

TheVanguardSix · 07/08/2019 23:30

Jaxon/Harrison
Archie
Charlie
Mason
Jayden/Kayden
Isla
Oh yes to Margot! This name. It's saturating the market!
And Freya. Stop it already with Freya!
And those names that smell like mothballs and Dot Cotton's net curtains: Myrtle, Maude, Bertha, Jean, Hattie, Doris the Finkasaurus.
Place names: Paris, Roma, London, Dallas, Sloane, Mackenzie, Sierra.
Throw Sienna in there while we're at it.
Names with a Y where there should be I: Caitlyn, Makayla, Camryn.

OctopusNow · 07/08/2019 23:30

Every kid round here seems to be called Albert/Albie/Bertie Wilfred or Stanley, it's getting ridiculous!

TerribleCustomerCervix · 07/08/2019 23:31

The popularity of Amelia is one that baffles me.

Yeah, it sounds pretty, if a bit bland. But it’s also the medical term for a missing limb.

OctopusNow · 07/08/2019 23:31

(Should have been a comma between Bertie and Wilfred)

OhMyDarling · 07/08/2019 23:39

I thought of some more!
Lila/lyla
Marnie
Aubrey (dislike so much that I can’t even say it aloud)
Daphne
Jack
Names with the word God/Jesus/Mohammad in them in any spelling
Maisie
Skylar
Skye
Devon
Eden
Holly
Joseph
Mary
Bailey
Tuesday
Alba (but I love Albie)
Bianca
Ruth (or even worse: Ruthie)
Benjamin or Ben
Savannah
Rosalie
Princess 🙄

Grumpasaurus · 07/08/2019 23:47

These are some names of children of my friends I inwardly roll my eyes at:

Autumn (bleurgh)

Rocky (yup, seriously, at first I thought it was a typo)

Fox (what the fuck?)

And the they day at a local event, was a most obnoxious girl named Morrigan. Total limelight chaser! Put me off the name.

HeartStrings · 07/08/2019 23:51

Only one of my DCs names popped up once so I'm happy lol.
I hate names that are spelled in a "youneek" way. Does my head in. Also any names which are hyphenated, especially when people write them in their Facebook like "mummy loves you so much Amelia-Jane".

Right now I'm tired and not pregnant needing to find a name so I can't think of one that I can't stand in particular. Each to their own I guess, just bloody spell it normally whatever it is

IAintWroteNoPoetry · 07/08/2019 23:55

I really don’t like Olivia, I just don’t understand why it’s so popular. And both my neighbours have a DD called Olivia. Our girls name is on here, but so far our boys name isn’t.

Sophronia · 08/08/2019 00:26

Darcey
Sienna
Mia
Phoebe
Isla
Olivia
Mila
Aria
Ivy

Theo
Arlo
Toby
Stanley
Teddy
Elliot
Louis

Crushedvelvetcouch · 08/08/2019 00:51

Harriet/Hattie
Hannah
Molly/ie
Grace
Dylan
Sonny (just awful)

zurigirl · 08/08/2019 01:12

There are quite a few here I really like! (Juniper - although probably wouldn't use in case it was shortened to June..., Everly, River for a girl...)

I really dislike Jackson/Jaxon, Jayden/Jaden. I'm not sure why because I don't have any negative associations, I just don't like how they sound at all.

Felix, Amelia, Oscar, Oliver/Olivia... are all perfectly fine but I don't get why there are so many of them.
