Both my partner and I really like the name Autumn however I'm put off because of the lack of nickname/shortening or diminutive.

Any ideas or thoughts on this?

Thank you.

I think the lack of shortening is a plus point, actually! Too often you like a name but not the shortened form. It's a nice name for an autumn baby, and no doubt a family nickname/pet name will evolve naturally.

TheGirlOnTheLanding you are so right! I hadn't even thought of it like that Grin

One of my favourites.
No need to shorten, I find that a huge plus point!

HettyStThomas · 05/08/2019 20:18

You cannot shorten my name and I see it as a huge plus.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 05/08/2019 20:29

Tum? Tummy?
Ort?
I'm not being mean, as I quite like it as a name, but nicknames are often not under parental control.

Offblue · 05/08/2019 20:33

Not looking to control nn Confused I understand it happens naturally. Just curious if anyone had a diminutive for the name.

Really lovely name.

Makes me immediately think of beautiful amber and gold leaves, bonfire smoke in the air, cosy firesides...

As Autumn doesn't particularly have any short form, I suppose any nickname she might end up with will be down to a personality trait/ physical feature etc instead.
Nothing wrong in that!

MrsBungle · 05/08/2019 23:11

Love it and I think it’s a plus there’s no nick name.

campion · 05/08/2019 23:16

I used to teach an Autumn but my TA got it into her head she was called April Confused
So you can never tell what variations might happen.
BTW names really don't need shortening.

Prettylittlelady · 06/08/2019 00:17

This is a really beautiful name...I don’t think it needs a nickname...one will happen naturally whether or not it’s linked to her actual given name

I love this name! Possibilities for nn: Tiggy, Tippi, Tommie, Tam, Tammy, Mimi, Minnie, Timmie, Tizzy, Mamie, Mim, Mitty, Missy.

Thanks for all the feedback and so lovely to hear that ppl agree it's a fab name.
Having read the comments I have to agree; some names don't need shortening.

Lovely name!

LlamaShark · 06/08/2019 20:29

I have an Autumn and she gets called Auty or Auts. It's a lovely name OP

meandmyboyz · 06/08/2019 20:31

Lovely name xx

We know a little autumn who's parents call "tumble"

Ellmau · 06/08/2019 20:40

"Naughty Auty" seems inevitable.

Offblue · 06/08/2019 21:53

LlamaShark was thinking auty and that's gorgeous.
Ah I'm loving the name even more now!

Lovely name Smile

Penelopevain · 07/08/2019 17:47

I think it’s a good thing it can’t really be shortened.
If you truly like a name then why shorten it at all? It ruins some lovely names
