I'm wondering what the thoughts on the name Anastasia are? Is it too much? Could she go by Stassi or is that not intuitive?

I love it. Couldn't convince my other half to use it though. She could definitely be Stassi.

GoGoGoGoGo · 02/08/2019 20:57

I really like it.

Goldenapples · 02/08/2019 21:01

Love it.

Am curious as to how you would pronounce it though?

I've heard...

Anna-Star-See-Ah
Anna-Stay-She-Ah
Anna-Star-She-Ah

Nice name but the potential shortening to Stacey is dreadful.

1ditzymare · 02/08/2019 21:05

I love it. Reminds me of the film! I wouldn’t want it shortening to Anna though.

IdaDown · 02/08/2019 21:06

How would you pronounce ‘Stassi’? Short a or long?

Careful, it could sound like... en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stasi

1ditzymare · 02/08/2019 21:06

Can I add the film being the children's cartoon and not fifty shades of grey Blush

redexpat · 02/08/2019 21:09

Lovely! Would you not shorten it to Ana?

Speckledhen10 · 02/08/2019 21:10

Love love love the name. She can always be an Anna if she chooses.

TequilaMockingbird0 · 02/08/2019 21:15

Love it. I know one who shortens it to Ani.

imtheonlyupsieone · 02/08/2019 21:28

Somehow not a pleasant sound to my ear. Also, a bit too Russian unless you're Russian. Reminds me of the singer.

novasglowx · 02/08/2019 22:00

I have one Grin pronounced Ana-stays-ya. Nickname Anya.

Evergreeny · 03/08/2019 00:16

Are you pronouncing it Anna-staz-ee-a or Anna-staysia?

If the latter, the most common nickname I’ve come across is Stacey.

I’m afraid I don’t like ‘Stassi’. It’s far too like Stasi, which does not have positive connotations, for obvious reasons.

Also, you need to be aware that you don’t get to dictate your child’s nickname. Her friends may call her Annie, or she may decide to go by Annie. If you don’t like Annie, then I wouldn’t choose Anastasia.

Evergreeny · 03/08/2019 00:18

I would also think it a strange choice if you don’t have any Russian links.

Names like Natasha are fine for non-Russians. Yet somehow Anastasia is a little too Russian for that.

CatteStreet · 03/08/2019 00:20

Yy, don't do Stassi, please.

I like Anastasia (the meaning is wonderful), but for some reason I feel it's quite a mouthful (my dc have 3 or 4 syllable names so don't know why). How about Natasha or Natalia?

Dogsaresomucheasier · 03/08/2019 00:30

I have a friend Anastasia who is lovely. She goes by the nickname Stasia.

Neighboursandnames · 03/08/2019 00:35

Oh wow, I hadn't even connected Stassi and Stasi 🙀 thanks everyone for letting me know! I got the nickname Stassi from Vanderpump Rules lol, but I will rule that out now. I'm not sure I like Annie, but maybe Stasia or Stacey. I'll have to think about it 🤔 thanks everyone

It's not only Russian, the name originates from Greece and is a popular girls names there.

pikapikachu · 03/08/2019 00:38

Star could be a good nickname but I'm assuming Anna-Star-zia

eachtigertires · 03/08/2019 02:37

I know a few people with this name. One is known as Ana, one Tasie (tay-zie) and one Stacia (stay-sha). All pronounce their long name Ana-stay-szha).

Bowerbird5 · 03/08/2019 03:49

I’ve taught one. She gets the full name from staff and peers. I love it.

Handsmaid · 03/08/2019 09:18

Great name

CheckingOutTheQuantocks · 03/08/2019 14:12

I like the name but the short version Ana is used as a slang term for anorexia, i.e. pro-ana, which kind of spoils it for me.

goldpendant · 03/08/2019 16:35

Lovely name. I know one, nn Stacia (sta-sha)

Frith2013 · 03/08/2019 16:36

I know Anastasia is in 50 Shades of Grey and I’ve never read it!

Stassi is horrid. Reminds me of the Stazi or sounds like an implement to unblock a toilet.
